We found various transportation companies which mostly charged a fortune. Not many airlines either but eventually used TUI to fly our cats on the same plane as us from LGW to ALC. Now we’re here there are a few companies advertising in local mags that do it and if I can root them out I will get back again.

You can catch a ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao. You can have a cabin which is pet friendly.
You have to drive though as passengers can’t walk on with a dog. With current regulations in Spain I don’t know about crossing borders.

Have to be honest. If you can afford it. Fly them over. Although expensive it is over very quickly. Driving them over could be very difficult with covid. Especially if not travelling with you. If you can not be with them, then just make it quicker. I flew my cats over, although expensive, it was all over in 24 hours. They were pretty annoyed with me however. Dogs are much more forgiving. Just remember the regions are closed down, so can only fly into corvera. Exciting times.

Many of us are in the same situation. Best advice i xan give is to follow the covid advice. Borders arr closed. Relax for a month as this will pass. Find a place to stay for a month in UK. Then when Borders are open the best way to get to Spain is by taking your car o to the ferry from Portsmouth to Balboa or Santander.
When you take a flight your pet flies with you for an extra £1000. For a company on pet travel to check your pet in. But inly after you the owner has done the paper work and passport and measurements of pet plus cargo case. And then the company meets you at the airport and books your pet in for a thousand pounds.
Best and happiest travel is for you to travel with your pet in a car where you can give them rest breaks in pet friendly hotels and toilet breaks, with planned picnic breaks. Only takes couple of days and a happier pet.
I can't help with any guidance but I'm gobsmacked at the prices quoted today! We came over with our cat Buffy in 2006, Gatwick to Alicante with Monarch (remember them?). The cost was £365.
She was a bit stressed for a day or so afterwards 🙀🙀
then she thought: sun, trees, this is nice ..... 😺😺😻
Try going onto the Preguntas y Mas Facebook page and ask there.
You can also look on Facebook for a guy called Edward Carmichael, he transports dogs by van from UK to Spain sometimes twice a week.
I used him and someone else many times to and from UK and Spain, the dog was well looked after, taken for regular pee breaks and fed enroute with the food I gave him when he picked her up.
The father and son run the journeys and swap vans halfway, so they can complete the journey in the shortest time and pick up from anywhere in UK, they picked up my dog from camposol and brought her to North Wales and vice versa, for £200 or €200 per trip, they're very good with the dogs and mine didn't mind her journey at all, I'd pop her into van with her food bag and own bed, into one of their fixed crates, they'd drive off, I'd catch a plane the next morning and my dog would be with me the following day, they will also carry furniture etc for people if their van isn't full, they bought a load of tools over that I needed one time, they're extremely flexible and very nice people, so check them out :)
Ps, there is also Paws Pet Travel but I've never used them. Best to ask on Preguntas y Mas for people who have used these services.

Further to my earlier post on this, with TUI it cost about £175 for both our two cats with TUI last April 2019. We took them in a taxi from Weymouth at midnight to Gatwick and were at our rented apartment by midday next day in Mar de Cristal via Alicante. 12 hours total journey. Job done.
