Take it that you dog has had ALL its injections and has its Pet Passport. If not your looking at 8mths before it can go. If you've got all that then best way I found was to drive. Ask the vet for some sedative tablets to help the dog relax and sleep through the journey.

We are taking our dog over next June ... we will be in Spain for 2 months we will be taking the car and ferry ...it's only a 8 hr drive from the ferry port in Spain to Camposol..it costs approximately £800 for the car and 2 adults ... the only other way is to drive All the way it takes around 24 hrs by road ..and it costs approximately the same ...you cannot take a dog on a plane .
Not sure where Chief50 gets the figure of 8 months to prepare for travelling to the EU with a dog - but if there is a 'no deal' Brexit the dog will require not just the injections including rabies but a subsequent test to show the correct antibodies are present in its blood this will take 4 months plus the dog will need a vets check a few days before travel - you can talk to your vet but unfortunately all they can do is refer you to the DEFRA website and of course no one - not even the politicos know how the whole Brexit shambles will be resolved - what will happen regarding the Pet Passport scheme if the UK leaves with some kind of 'deal' is even less clear.

Hi
We bring our 2 small dogs back and forth via Portsmouth and Santander.Just booked a journey back for March 2020 the additional cost of the kennel for a single journey was £39.If your lucky enough to book when the timetables come out its possible to book a dog friendly cabin ,they do also become available through cancellations but you need to check regularly.
The kennels are clean and spacious and you just need to supply food blankets etc.You can spend as long as you like with your pet on the journey and the exercise area is adequate.
Up to now taking a pet to the EU has been an easy straightforward and simple matter.Let's hope any deal keeps it that way.
Also Air France allow certain small pets to travel in the passenger compartments on their planes.
Good Luck

£39 each way on Brittany Ferry .That's the cost for the accomodation and fare, whether the dog stays in a pet friendly cabin or has a kennel.
When I brought my dog back from Spain it had to have 6 mths after having its rabbies injection, plus all other injections and chipping. Unfortunately we had to come back earlier than the 6mth gap and it cost us over a thousand pound, so make sure its all correct
My vet here in Spain asked me last week if we were thinking of visiting theUK with our dog next year, the reason being that after the 31 st January the dog has to have tests at least 2 months before travel. I can't remember which tests .
