Wonder if there’s any truth in this article from Murcia Today concerning the introduction of more tolls on the motorways in Spain

Paddy & Caz

That’s a very good point never considered that, the service roads aren’t suitable for traffic so the only logical way out is on the motorway.

When the bridge over the ramble was washed away before the new bridge was built people on Sectors C & D had to use the back road. People living on Sectors A & B had to use the road which comes out at the roundabout at La Pinilla junction, under motorway and on the road to LaPinilla us a road the goes other side of Country Club and into Mazarron Town. There are a few ways but people have never had to use them for a number of years.

Personally I can not see this happening on the majority of motorways only the main links between large cities and towns. There are few, if any, service areas on Spanish motorways so trucks didn’t use them as no where to have rest periods, fill up with fuel, have refreshments etc. it is only in the last 10-15 years that trucks have started using motorways.start charging and drivers will soon revert back to the old routes.

I cycle the service roads the one you enter on Sector “A” heading towards El Pareton & Totana isn’t to bad but it’s very narrow but with cars going in both directions that would cause major issues, the old road on the other side of the motorway which used to come out by the Garden Centre on Sector “B” has been blocked off that road would be great if it was ever reopened, going in the direction towards the County Club the old road is good past the “B” sector garden centre and restaurant until you get to the El Saladillo motorway junction then you have to cross the motorway bridge and join the service road which is full of large potholes and unsuitable for cars. The route they used on Sector “D” when the bridge was washed away is an old track doesn’t look suitable for cars anymore.

I agree they would have to improve our service roads as it would probably be illegal not to provide an alternative route to toll motorways out of Camposol.

Phil, not talking about the El Pareton / Totana road nor service roads I am referring to signposted roads, the one running into Mazarrón, although a bit twisty, runs through the mountains, past The Country Club and ends at the TVA test station in Mazarron.

Here I am referring to what in the U.K. are service areas, nothing to do with service roads. Service areas on motorways offer restaurant or cafeteria facilities, toilets, showers, hotel accommodation and fuel without actually leaving the motorway.
