Hi. We have recently bought in Mula and wondered if you had to have your chimney swept and if so, can you recommend someone to do this? We need a new wood burner installed too.
Thanks.
Hi Barbara, I’m so glad you asked that question... I have learnt so much already! Here is the first reply from one of our friends...
“People often do get it done, there are specialist companies that do it. Usually, it is enough to use the desooter blocks(leroy merlin sell them), for the first and last fire of each season. Sometimes more often if you have a problem. If you have too much soot, it can cause smoke in the house and raise carbon monoxide levels in the house. Last year we had to scrape lots of soot from the fire and use the desooter blocks and called out a specialist and get a fan put on outside of chimney top to aid smoke removal. Nobody had told us about the need for the desooter blocks or fan, so we got big problems with our chimney after 3 years!! Ventilation in the house is important for updraught to the chimney too. We had double glazing and windowed in our terrace, which caused the house to lose updraught!”
We also have friends who bought a pellet burner in Casa Nuevas ... I have asked them for info on that.
