Hi,

I was thinking of retiring to Spain and living on Camposol but as I don't drive people have said its not close to any towns so I was looking at Mar Manor and Mazzaron but from what I can make out these are mainly golfing resorts and away from town also, please can someone suggest elsewhere.

Hi

We live in Puerto de Mazarron which is near every thing. Shops, Sunday market, beach , Marina and various restaurant and the bus station.

We don't have a car as we don't need one as everything is accessible can walk everywhere.

It's one of the reasons we live here, we live in a small complex with English and Spanish neighbours ( it does get a little busy in the summer)

It's an area to consider.

Good luck with finding an area you love.

Having lived in the campo inland from Velez-Málaga since 2005 we found that as we got older the work maintaining a large house with a pool became more arduous. It was 9km to the nearest village shops and 25km to the coast and supermarkets, hospital etc, so shopping needed planning, and plug-in coolboxes essential.

We moved to Los Narejos and are now 50m from the first of many bars and restaurants, 100m from supermarket and 300m from the beach.

Sure, we still use the car, but it is less than half an hour to Cartagena with San Javier or San Pedro del Pinatar much less, so a lot easier to live.

Think about renting and never buying, because as one ages the risks of one partner becoming ill or dying increase, and if a return to the UK is needed it will only cost you the loss of a quarter’s rent to walk away, rather than it possibly taking years to sell a property and with the high costs of buying and selling here there needs to be a big hike in property values for these to be covered. You can rent a splendid place for less than one person’s pension, living off the partner’s, and you will still have the capital from selling up in the UK in the bank.

I can honestly say I'd never thought of renting permanently and it certainly has its merits, as for living on partners pension that would be difficult as I'm single.

We just bought a villa in Camposol and we are almost 65. I would never rent again. First because you can't do with your house what you want and you are never sure if you will be able to stay for a long time. I hate moving constantly. And if we eventually should go back, we can always rent the house in longtime rent and have that extra income above our pension.

Several properties on A & B, are within a very easy walk of the shops, bars, restaurants, etc. So do shop around, and never, ever see less than three agencies, and even then, take your time! Time IS on your side, bargains are there to be had, all over, but "hot-cakes" are only available from the bakery!

Always resist strongly any pressure from the agent to decide quickly "as their has been a lot of interest in this one, lately" This is, in ALL probability, almost certainly a "barrow-load of B/S"!

Many more houses fall into the net, -if you buy an electric moby-scooter, from Amazon.es among many others, including locals! They are enormous fun, as any owner will tell you, and cost only pennies-per-month to run! If you would rather travel under your on steam, there is a whole world of bikes on tap, -tourers, some great modern three-wheelers with two back-wheels around 2-feet apart, giving you tremendous stability potentially a huge cargo-space boot, folding-bikes, e-bikes, all stations inbetween and you can mix-and-match many of these features!

There IS a public bus service to the town of Mazarron, 5/12 miutes drive, but I believe it only runs once a day, so you would need to research the timetable. It can be downloaded from the internet, I have done so.

I am a 70-year old widower, who bought a 2-bed classico a year or more ago, which I have done-up more to my liking, now. Being on the final-phase (D

Hi, my husband and I are thinking of buying in the Camposol area, as property prices seem reasonable. Can anyone tell me, why there are so many properties for sale in this area?? And which sector is best to purchase in.

Thanks

I don't know for sure but I guess it's because of Brexit. If you have a property in Spain and you are no longer European, would you need a visa every time you want to come over if you are not resident ?

Maybe so. I was unsure and was thinking if there was something up in this area, as there are lots of properties for sale in the many different sectors.Thank you Lydia1953.

Hi Caroline, I've recently bought on Camposol, I think if you consider how large/vast Camposol (I think approx. 6000 homes?) and then also take into account that a large percentage of the residents are in their later years having retired over there. On top of that there will be a percentage of people that bought holiday homes but now want to sell, I believe the amount of houses for sale would reflect all of the above.

A and B sector have more amenities, C sector has the golf course and club house (and possibility of the hotel re opening sometime in the future(fingers crossed) and D is the largest and quietest area, You would need a car for C and D. Please don't be off by some of the stories you may have heard, come over and see for yourself (holiday/rent) and treat it no differently then if you were buying a house anywhere else, pay for a structural survey! even if agent doesn't feel necessary.

6 months ago I was thinking the same as you but came over for 3 days, the Camposol community ( a massive incentive for us),  beautiful area and reasonable prices won me over and now I have a lovely home from home and I'm flying out this week for the first time.

Best of luck and best wishes
