Hi People

We have been told that our holiday home has damp on the living room wall

Can someone please tell me the best way to remove and the best paint to use to stop it happening again as I’m hearing that most of the damp paint over there is rubbish

Our villa is a fortuna

You need to find the cause of the damp.

Painting over it is never going to work even with the most expensive product you can find.

Hi,

it’s due to the lack of insulation in Spanish properties. Plus the long periods that it’s being left unoccupied as a holiday home.

There are a number of solutions you can try. Get a dehumidifier. The electric ones are by far the best. You leave it on permanently, they have a tube which you drain to outside or into a sink. Probably need two, one upstairs and one down.
You can buy the non electric one from the Chinky supermarket, but the have a very limited life, a couple of weeks at best. However, the dehumidifiers are expensive to run and you will probably see your electric bills go up.

The best solution if your able is to leave windows open in each room. However, this is only usually possible if you have shutters and grilles on the windows. Remember to leave the shutters in the ventilation position so you can see daylight through them.

However, nothing beats living in the house where you have doors and windows open.

By painting over your not curing the source of the damp and it will eventually start to ruin furniture. Plus isn’t healthy to be around.

We have a holiday home and had exactly the same problem!

We used our place on Camposol as a holiday home for many years prior to using full time, and never experienced any damp. Have many friends the same. When we left it unoccupied we left the internal doors open.

I would suggest checking for any possible leaks, etc.
