Hi, my wife and I are looking to purchase a retirement  property in Camposol. Having never been to the area before, we are hoping to get some information on the area. The sector we have been looking at is sector D, can anyone let me know if this is a nice area and the distance to shops, bars etc.

Any help would be my much appreciated

I have owned a villa on D for 11 years ..it's a very nice part of Camposol and is approximately 4 klm away from the shop's /bars / and so on if you look at the price of the villas around the shops they tend to be 25% more expensive than sectors C/D ...so if you have a car you will get more Villa for you money on C/D good luck.

Many thanks for your reply,  I will no doubt have quite a few more questions before I take the plunge

Hi!

I have a "Classico" terraced bungalow on `D-15' and I love it! For rather LESS than the price of a bleak and grimey caravan in Clacton, Southend or St.Osyth, with a couple of sardine-can-sized-bedrooms, a galley kitchen inaccessible to a well-built person and such a compact bathroom that you can perform every bodily-function without taking-a-breath, or wigling-a-toe -in fact it is far better if you try NOT to breathe, toe-wiggle, burp or frown!

Yes- my Classico-Bungalow is terraced, yet it IS still quite a palace in many respects! For £50k (c.40-65) it is an absolute steal, -with 2x Double Bedrooms that will actually take a FULL-SIZE double-bed (or 2x full-size singles)- I have put a new KING-SIZE in mine- Bliss! Plus a decent-size Lounge/Diner (with a table-&-chairs set, 2x new Rocking-Chairs and a new Double-Bed-Setee -wow! There is also full-size kitchen, with proper appliances (fan-oven, ceramic-hob, w/m, f/f. etc) and a short-length (but full-width) back-yard with an iron-staircase taking you up to a vast full-width "Solarium" or sun-deck, brick-built BBQ, & cupboards full of sun-loungers, & the like!

Virtually all the amenities you could ever wish for are up on the Commercial-Centre of Sector B (& a few more on `A'), including restaurants, bars, cafes, & entertainments. From time-to-time there is an outdoor stage erected in the shopping-square, where lively entertainment is provided.

So properties on Sector B have all of this life, convenience, noise, hustle & bustle close at hand, but a short walk away, which IS a tremendous Blessing or Curse, depending on you viewpoint!

Sector C is a compromise, neither one, nor t'other BUT, as well as the GOLF Club, the Clubhouse can be socially useful!

Properties on `D' are the furthest away, perhaps a 40/50minute trek to the commercial centre on foot, maybe 5/15 by bike, dependant on how fit you ar,( and your precise location), or 5 by car!

The Biggest DRAWBACK  to living on `D' is how far away and isolated from everything you are!

The Biggest ADVANTAGE to living on `D' is how far away and isolated from everything you are!

YOU pays your money, and YOU CHOOSE YOUR preference! There IS no right, there IS no wrong!

Thank you for your reply, sounds like the right sector for us. Can you tell me the approx monthly living costs for a couple living a " normal " life, ie a few meals and nights out a month. I don't want to scrimp and save over there - I don't believe that's what retirement is all about. Just after some idea of costs and budgets as I've seen lots of different posts on this forum.

Thanks again

David

Hiya!

Yes, you will see as many different posts as there are people! - Everyone has their own preferences, their own ideas of what is `normal', was is acceptable, what is worth trying, and on, and on, (and Ariston)!

Simply put, there is no direct conversion- many things are a little cheaper, some dearer (2nd-hand cars -ugh!), but overall you may well find that your overall costs are DOWN by 10-15%. However one striking benefit is in the huge variety of very fresh fruit & veg, so widely available, and quite cheap! As at home, restaurant prices vary widely, the most convenient ones frequently much dearer than the hidden-away ones, off the-beaten-track. Cafe's, snacks, English-food & fast-food often tend to be poorer value, in my experience, than home-cooked food from local, or speciality, places so, don't be afraid to strike-out and try new things!

Eating fresh fruit was a real eye-opener for me! The first time I ever bought a peach and ate it on the bus, I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven! It was amazing, I was gobsmacked, I had never, ever had a peach in England where the juice shot-out everywhere, from the very first bite!

THE Spanish people are very friendly, and will try to help, but the English Language is far from universal out here! However, a lot of smiles, and a little Spanish, go a long way!

With an open-mind, an adveturous spirit, a willingness to try new things, a whole new, wonderful "Vista" will open-up for you! Those people who stick religiously to fish-and-chips, pie-and-mash, & Sunday Roast, day-in, day-out, everyday, all weak, every week, and proudly proclaim that they don't speak a word of `foreign' may feel a little restricted from time-to-time, but for those "who boldly go on a 5-year mission" WILL have fun, will learn an aweful lot, and be happy and content!

ENJOY your Retirement!

Thanks for the reply Alan. I am looking forward to the retirement, though it all seems very daunting at the minute. Even trying to find the right area is difficult. Can't wait to get out there though - wherever that may be.

Cheers again
