We applied for private medical insurance with DKV and it is a waste of time.

I was totally truthful with the forms.
I explained about an operation I had 5 years ago to remove a blood clot on the lungs and even provided a letter from the hospital stating I was signed off needing no further treatment because the operation was successful.

I put down my wife’s hysterectomy 20 years ago and a thyroid problem she has now and takes tablets for.
They have asked for pathology reports for that and a complete history or what caused the blood clots in my case.
absolutely ridiculous as I’ve already given a letter signing me off and I can get info for wife for something she had 20 years ago.
I'm wondering wether I should not put anything like that in applications in future. There’s seems to be little point in being honest.
does anyone know an insurer that’s more straightforward than DKV ?

It seems they only want perfect people that have never had anything wrong with them

Sorry to hear that, but their all about the same, you just have to keep searching the websites, some may not be so picky, good luck.

Makes me wonder if people are declaring previous conditions and operations

We have DKV.

We declared our previous medical conditions.

We could not hide my wife's surgery scars (hysterectomy and laparoscopic cholecystectomy). So there was no point in lying. The first doctor to examine her would have seen the evidence, and any claims would have been rejected (in fact, my wife received chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy last year, courtesy of DKV). But hysterectomy and cholecystectomy surgery are once-only activities.

Some conditions are deemed as ongoing/chronic. I'm guessing that most insurers will be cautious, and this will inform the premiums.

But you only have to bear the cost of high premiums for one year. After that, you can join the Convenio Especial, which accepts pre-existing conditions at no extra cost.
