As of last night, it was brought into effect that any one who wishes to be a resident of Spain MUST NOW HAVE Private Health care to apply.

The EHIC cards will NO longer be accepted for applying for residence.

This was notified to those applying at present.

Not every one under retirement age can afford private health care, so watch out England, many , many Brits will be returning to get there health care treatment, it had to come with Brexit, and lots more yet I  think will be announced to put pressure on.

You have needed private Health care for the first year since 2012 to become a resident..you also need a income of approximately €8,000 per adult in the household over the age of 18 to be considered ...even if you are a OAP. You will need a pension of €8,000 for one or a combined pension for two of approximately €16,000 per year...all OAPs in Spain will continue to have their Spanish healthcare paid by the British tax payer at a cost of €4,500 per year per OAP ..not bad from the UK a country that some expats have not got a good word to say about the place.

I disagree with the income bit of your post, didn't ask me or the person that I went with, well not at Cartagena, and there are way's round the private health care too and it's not rocket science

Hi,

Agree with most you state, but after contacting England today, if there is a NO DEAL, the payment for health care from England for all ex pats, retirement age or not will cease.

No deal means NO Deal, so all finance will stop, and that is what England has stated as of today, get ready, it will come .

Hi,

After contacting UK today, they clearly state, if there is a NO DEAL, all payments from the UK will cease,

Ex pats, retirement age or not, will not have any UK payments for health care .

They state  NO DEAL means NO DEAL, the one off leaving payment to the EU, will be it, nothing more.

This has been confirmed.

Amazes me how many Ex-Pats in Spain are Brexiters, Turkey and Christmas springs to mind!

Owners on Camposol I know just got their residency and they were not asked about their income. They own their villa outright.

I think the owners / residents you are referring to are OAPs ..that are on a regular pension from the UK ...if this is the case no questions  would be asked they would also have access to Spanish NHS...without private health care in place...the story is completely different if you are under UK retirement age ..with no job /no proof of income/no private healthcare/good at ducking and diving don't count.

Also remember that entitlement to Free NHS Hospital Treatment...

As entitlement to NHS hospital treatment is primarily based on UK residency, if you have been living outside the UK for more than 3 months in the last year, or 6 months if you are a pensioner living in another EEA member state, you may be charged for your healthcare unless:

• You can provide evidence that you have returned to the UK with right of abode to resume permanent residence;

• You can provide evidence you have been working abroad for less than 5 years and have lived in the UK legally for ten continuous years at some point;

• You can provide evidence you work in another EEA member state or Switzerland and pay compulsory (not voluntary) National Insurance in the UK;

• You can provide evidence you receive a UK war disablement pension or war widow’s pension;

• You can provide evidence you work for specific UK Government organisations abroad but were recruited in the UK, ie members of UK forces serving abroad, UK civil servants working abroad, or if you work for the British Council or Commonwealth Grave Commission abroad, or if your posting is financed by the UK Government in agreement with another government or public body;

• You can provide evidence you are a missionary overseas working for a UK based organisation

We were told we have to provide proof of monthly income to be able to become resident.
