I have spent so much time looking at Gov.uk website & many others trying to fully understand healthcare post Brexit issues ( & unless I’m being thick - which is entirely possible!) I cannot find I simply cannot understand how this will apply to people like myself - I will be 63 in Nov 2020 & intended to move to Spain this autumn ( Murcia appeals) & claim residency before Jan 2021. I am hoping to find PT work as a TEFL teacher which would entitle me to healthcare but understand I will need private healthcare if I can’t get work & cannot apply to join the national scheme until I have 12 months residency .
The Gov U.K. website states “ If you’re living in Spain before the end of 2020, your rights to access healthcare in Spain will stay the same for as long as you remain legally resident. This means you’ll continue to get state healthcare in Spain from 1 January 2021 on the same basis as a Spanish resident. You’ll also have the right to apply for a UK S1 if you start drawing a UK State Pension“ . I understood this to mean that so long as was able to satisfy the residency criteria before the cut off date in the event I was unsuccessful in finding work I would still be able to join the national scheme after 12 months AND when I hit state pension age in 3 years time I could then apply for U.K. S1.
The above posts by Zacdog & Frequent Flyer indicate I’ve completely misunderstood this situation & will never be eligible to access the Spanish Healthcare system ( unless through work etc. But this certainly isn’t clear ( at least to me!) on the U.K. gov website so any advice much appreciated.
