My wife and I were hoping to retire this year and live permanently in Camposol.

I will  be 64 so state pension age for me is 66.

My wife is 62 and her state pension is 67.

My concern is do we have to take out a private health insurance?

The cheapest I could find for the both of us is 227 euros a month with ASSSA. (That's without declaring any ongoing medical issues).

This would take a large chunk of a modest work pension that I have to live on until we are in recipt  of the UK state pension in several years time.

If anyone could offer any help or guidance it would be much appreciated, otherwise we are going to have to put the whole thing on hold.

Hi i am 63 pension 66 so i looked all over i have taken DKV 1400 euro and that cover cancer care, and given a low cost funeral plan as well, the system and staff are fantastic, and there is no increase if and when you use the cover it only goes up by the insurance inflation rate about 2% per year.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply.

What does DKV stand for and do they have a website please.

The 1400 euros you mention is that just for you?  I would need cover for my wife as well.

Hi

I’m just researching private health cover too, DKV seem to be very good, I believe they are one of only a few who offer lifetime cover.

Do you use the DKV clinic in Mazarron town ?

Regards

Sue

You might want to contact Works and Pensions to get a more accurate age when you get your pension as I turned 60 this year and I will get my pension when I am 66 and 1 month.  Plus there is currently an issue relating to women born in the 1950's - there is a judgement awaited from being taken to court on 5/6 June this year relating to an unfairness to those women born in the 50's as when the pension age changed it didn't give those women enough time to make provisions for having to work longer.

Good afternoon.

I am currently in the process of sorting out

medical insurance for the purpose of Spanish residency. As you say the price of Spanish healthcare can be very daunting depending on your requirements and I have been given quotes as high as 7500 euro a year.

I am dealing with an expat company based in Gibraltar. They may be able to help you?

Hi Karenp

Just read your reply to someone asking about healthcare cover. Whereby you mentioned about a ‘judgement’ re women born in the 50’s and having to wait longer for their state pension. Well, I was born in 1956 and have to wait til I’m 66 (as you) to get my state pension and wondered if you could please advise as to where you have heard about this issue being taken to court,  as I would be really interested in reading about it and as to the outcome. Kind regards
