Hi All,

We currently live in the UK but are moving to Camposol B within the next 6 weeks. My grandad is also moving with us and he has a medical exemption to wearing a mask (his eyes steam up so he genuinely can't see).

Is there something in Spain we can look into for him, before we go, in order to get him cleared over in Spain.

Thanks in advance

Jennifer

There are 5 exemptions for not wearing a mask. 1) Under 6 years of age. 2) and 3 ) are the ones that would apply to your grandfather. For medical exemption you would have to have a certficate from an approved Spanish medical practitioner. This would have to be carried by your Grandfather at all times. Otherwise it is a 100 euro fine. The exemptions fall into 2 categories,  2)breathing difficulties or other physiological problem, or basically ( in the simplest of terms) 3) mental incapacity.  If your Grandfathers spectacles steam up when he wears his mask, there are other solutions. There are several private clinics who may be able to help. The average price for seeing a doctor privately is approx 45 € to 50 €. I do not know how much you would be charged for a certificate, if granted.

I need to make this clear. You need to have a serious previous lung condition.  Feeling you cannot breathe is NOT a condition that would qualify. Nor is spectacles would steam up an acceptable  condition. If you did get a certificate, it would probably mean, he could not go into restaurants,   Shops, cafes Bars etc. We are possibly going into another lock down here because of a spike in covid.

Also I  am sure you know how expensive it will be to live in Spain after Brexit. No health care, etc etc.I assume you must have incredible resources.

Ooh! How horrid ! Might be easier to get the optician to write a report. Then when you get here, go to Costa calida services  ( on A ) to get it translated. Or ask another legal translator, eg: Debbie Shaw et al. To translate it. Then take that report when your Grandfather sees the Doc. . Otherwise I could see it becoming a very long drawn out affair. Ali xx
