Hi, my husband and I are renting a villa on Camposol for six months from October and our GP here in the UK is not prepared to give my husband his prescribed medication for the whole time we are away from the UK.

Can someone advise whether it is possible to get his medication direct from the Pharmacy or does he have to register with a GBP in Spain?

If he has to register with a GP to get his repeat prescription will it be covered by his EHIC?

EHIC is all set to disappear on 31/12/20.

You will need travel health insurance after that date, or Residency (with S1 or private healthcare).

That said, if you have a prescription box with the prescription label on it in your husband's name, most pharmacists will provide the equivalent drug, but at full cost.

You are not supposed to stay >90 days as things stand (but this rule is often flouted). After 31/12/20, the rule will be 90 days in any 180.

The pharmacy in Spain will supply most medication but at full cost ,I forgot some needles for my pen it cost 41euros for a box .Ehic won't be of any use after 31/12/2020 unless a deal of sorts is done with the Eu .one needs travel insurance after that date .So your husbands medication could work out expensive .Some doctors in the uk will give you elongated medication for travel but a lot won't, no hard or fast rule.My view in the future the90 day rule will be enforced, that's what all the electronic passport control booths are all about, at the airports.

Is it worth considering flying back when the 2nd prescription is due, might make financial sense and it would avoid breaking the 90 rule....especially helpful if you want to consider further long term (90 day) rentals.....

it would still break the 90 day rule as they are legally only able to stay for 90 days in 180 so flying back for a few days wouldn't make any difference. Even though its a 6 month let it would only be legal for them to stay 90 days

Crissywissy, maybe you can clarify for me....I understand the 90 days in 180 days, clarity I’m seeking is....is it only 90 days in each 6month/180 day period or could it be two consecutive 90 day stays i.e. Sept/Oct/Nov running into Dec/Jan and February and then noting again for another year, until February the following year?

no day 1 of the 180 is the day you arrive so you can stay 90 but would have to be out of all Schengen  countries for the next 90....nothing to do with the calendar year....so you can do two periods of 90 days in a year but not continuous!

HI,

I've done some work on the 90/180 day rule and its not as straight forward as you think because it moves through

the year. Its not just a case of blocking two 180 days together and putting the last and the first back to back. There is a calculator to

help you work out your stays and here my thoughts on how to work out your stays.

SO WHEN Planning a TRIP!

1) You need to keep in mind that you need to count back 180 days from the day you leave Spain (trip you are planning).

2) when counting back note all the days you have been in the Shengen area - not just Spain!

3) add the total and that will tell you if you've over stayed or have enough days left.

for example

I'm staying 5/1/21 to 16/01/21 so I count back 180 days from 16/01/21 so my 180 day is 20/7/20

I haven't been traveling in shengen area so I've got 90 -12 days = 78 days left.

now I'm staying 9/2/21 to 20/2/21 again I have to count back 180 days from 20/2/21 which is 24/8/20

so now I count back 12 days plus the previous 12 days - so now I've 78 days -12 days = 66 days

now I'm up for a big stay

I'm gonna stay from 16/3/21 to 20/5/21 this is for 66 days so again count 180 days back from 20/5/21 to 21/11/20 noting you days in Shengen.

so unto 21/11/20 I have 66+12+12 = 90 days!

Now my next stay is 4/7/21 to 15/07/22 another 12 days  BUT the 180 day count back is 16/1/2021 the last day of the first trip

so now the count is 12+66+12 = 90 - this shows how the 180 slides my first 12 days are no longer counted.

So its all clear now... Yes ?? lol

the hope is the count will set to 0 on 1st jan 2021 when things change - so the count would just go back to the 1/1/2021 (however the actual 90/180 rules has always been there just not enforced so they could be 'jobs worth' and count the full 180 days back)

have a read of this conversation trail which is based on one of Jims guides talking about the 90/180 rule

🙄

Do you happen to know what the sanction/penalty is for breaking the 90 in 180 day rule.....might be easier swallowed than working it all out 🤣😂😅.....ta

Hi thanks for your reply, we booked the rental through an agent on camposol and they mentioned nothing about that we could only stay for 90 days
