If they are over 65 and move to Spain before the end of this year. They should request the S1 form from UK Dwp and once they have got their residencia sorted they will be able to get prescriptions through health system here and pensions usually pay about 10%  of the actually cost of each prescription.  There is a monthly maximum charge  but I'm not sure how it works.   

Until registered you can buy most medicines over the counter in Spain  if not possible on certain items they will need to see a private doctor.  .

Hi, thanks for the help. 

My parent is in her 70's and retired. As she wants to first try out a place for 6 months before committing to a particular area, as she does not drive and needs to be on the bus route as she is an avid explorer. 

With my mum first only staying for 6 months does she need to fill in the form S1 for and residency. Is there an easier way where she can get her medicines. As she might decide after 6 months to return to the UK. 

I am hoping for a way she can easily take her heart tablets/blood pressure prescription and gain the medication without her needing residency.

Well firstly I don’t think she should consider Camposol if she doesn’t drive. Unless she buys a place v close to either A or B where the shops and bars etc are. The only bus to anywhere goes from A and it’s a long way from say C or D. 

Anyway as for prescriptions, with only a six month stay I think you should speak to someone like Debbie Shaw. She is English but has lived in Spain for a long time and will have all the answers I’m sure.

A lot may depend on when they come over. If this year then for a stay of over three months they will have to register as foreigners. If next year they will only be allowed to stay for 90 days in each 183 anyway, unless they are accepted as residents, with either the S1 form for state healthcare or private medical insurance (which could be VERY expensive at their ages) and all the other conditions re income and so on.

It is becoming much more difficult for anyone to come and go as they please, particularly with the UK leaving the EU.

Do plenty research, and as another “elderly person” let me warn them that the summers get more difficult to tolerate as one ages, with very high humidity most of the time and almost insufferable temperatures in summer. Not much point moving hundreds of miles to end up having to live in aircon, and with language difficulties re health care.

Things are definately becoming difficult for elderly just to enjoy their retirement after years in work. 

I did not know about staying for only 90 days out of 180. As retirement should not mean having to gain new residency in old age. To gain well earnt retirement. 

There needs to be some  better political bargaining on that. 

. Maybe with the euro transfer companies can help at the extra cost on transferring funds from UK bank account to spanish bank.  Does anyone know which banks are best to take  money from uk account to a spanish account, as uk charge £25 per transaction and spanish bank charges 35 euros per monthly transaction.

Yes, camposol would be to isolated for her as she does not drive, 

Use TransferWise to move money to your Spanish bank account.

They only charge a few £'s to move money.

If your Spanish bank charges you to receive money change banks ASAP.
