Hi,

with the UK's Foreign Office changing the advisory on Spain (no doubt will be on a regular basis) and thereby voiding our travel insurance. I was thinking

of taking out Spanish private medical for a year until the covid issues are sorted (hopefully). My only concern was that we will be non residents

and wondered if that made us ineligible. I know you have to have insurance for residentia but we won't we permenently based here. (yet!) Has

anyone had experience in this area??

Stu.

We took out PHI to become Residents.

So we were non-Resident at the time - no issues.

I think this is what everyone below pensionable age has to do.

But our Spanish PHI does not cover travel outside of Spain (e.g. flight cancellations, etc.).

And I would ask  your agent if newly purchased PHI covers Covid.

Not sure about your question, but when we applied for private medical insurance for residency in Spain, one of the questions was do you live abroad for more than 90 days? Now remember as you will be non resident that question would be answered yes? As this insurance is Spanish, so I feel it would not work in your case? But don’t take my word for it, good luck.

Hi again, just read a article on travel insurance and it mentioned a company based in Kent. www.battleface.com

email [email protected]

Tel +44 (20) 80895338

Reading the article it’s not your every day holiday insurance and does not cover flights, but most medical needs. Battle face covers all destinations, including countries under FCO and government essential and non essential travel advisories. Covid 19 for medical expenses covered for travellers up to age 59.

Might be worth a look.

I wonder if there is any other company offering this sort of insurance but without the age limit ??

I can't seem to find anybody myself.

I've been looking at this and it appears that its only the Covid cover that is limited to 59 years old. All the over cover is up to 79 years old...

The other constraints appear to be that they don't offer an annual policy or any couples policies / discounts.

The EHIC covers any urgent medical needs as long as you use a state health service doctor. Health insurance will not cover anything else like cancellations or repatriations so seems little point in having it?

The only thing that I have annual travel insurance for really is medical repatriation.

Costs for that can be horrendous & is something that the EHIC card does not cover.

I am not bothered about baggage loss, flight cancellation etc etc.

Thank you RichT I will have to look into this further myself.

well after Dec the EHIC is a mute point isn't it? All medical will be private for no residents hence my thought on purchasing if we can't rely on travel insurance do to the constant change of FO advisories. I did check out battleface and it is quite expensive at roughly 80 quid per trip which in our case works out about 800 quid (10 trips a year). It may well be fit for purpose but paying a little more for the full monty maybe the better value. Has anyone else had the "out of the country for more than 90 days " question on their application??
