I recently had some X-Rays done and was impressed that I was able to get an appointment for the day after my visit to the doctor.

Getting the results, however, appears to be a different story. As instructed, I made a telephone appointment online. Wasn’t sure what would happen, but as nothing happened at the allotted time, I have made another. Two more weeks to wait. But can anyone tell me please how this works? Why can’t you just make a normal appointment to go back and see the doctor? Thanks in adv

I am presuming you are registered with the Spanish healthcare system?

To make an appointment with your doctor or nurse it is very easy just fill your details in on the online form and it is there for you. With our medical centre it is always quicker this way, normally within 3 days.

Thanks very much for taking the trouble to send the information. However (and this sounds rude when typed, which is not my intention), you have not answered the question.

As I said I had no problem making the appointments and I know we’re in Spanish holiday period. And I don’t think I would have got X-Rays if I wasn’t registered.

What I do want to know is this: After my X - Rays I was told to make a ‘telephone appointment’ for the results, which I did. So do they phone you with the results at the time of this appointment? As I said the first one I made nothing happened. I just want to know the results 😃

Thank you so much both.

I actually did try to answer your question assuming you wanted a doctors appointment "Two more weeks to wait. But can anyone tell me please how this works? Why can’t you just make a normal appointment to go back and see the doctor?"

If it is not a doctors appointment you require, perhaps you should explain who you are trying to see!

It is quite easy to get x-rays in Spain and you don't have to be registered as you pointed out you were.

I have always been given my x-rays or ultrasound results before I left the premises where this was carried out, nowadays it is by a DVD

I then make an appointment to see my doctor as I advised

Ah well thanks for that. My doctor told me to get the X-Rays done, then make a telephone appointment. As such a thing is an option when making appointments, that is what I did. The doctor who did them also told me to make a telephone appointment.

No one said anything about a DVD. I think I’ll just have to wait and see what happens on the telephone appointment, or go back to the health centre and ask there. Or like you said and I originally would have done if not told otherwise, make a normal appointment again to see the doctor.

Thanks for your help anyway

When I recently was referred by a specialist at Los Arcos Hospital for a scan (under the State Health system), the private hospital in Cartagena rang me with the appointment, then when the scan was done I was told to go back a week later to collect the disc. Los Arcos then rang me with an appointment to get the results taking the disc with me. With previous X-rays and scans I was told to make a GP appointment. It would have been easy to miss the "come back to collect the disc" instruction, as it was not emphasised, presumably because Spanish patients would all know the system?

It does depend what you had done.  We do of course tend to use 'X-Ray' as a generic term sometimes.

MRI (or RMI) are generally on a disc;  CT scan usually seems to go direct to the instructing medic but occasionally result in a negative;  X-Ray go via computer system to the medic.

It's August.  Nothing happens.  You can always go and camp on the Medical Centre doorstep and queue until you get a better answer!

The state health service often uses private clinics for scans and the like, and as they are not on the state system the scan cannot be accessed online by a state doctor, thus they give a disc to the patient to take.
