Hi many thanks for the good advice.

Will looking at the Tax implication today to try and clear some concerns, hopefully because we are selling before we apply for our NLV it won't be an issue.

I'd strongly advise you to take tax advice. You may be liable for capital gains tax in Spain if you sell your UK home and move to Spain in the same tax year.

Good morning,

Thank you so much for this info, we took some tax advice today from a spanish based firm and was told that if we are planning on moving in the 2nd part of any year, then we will be fine as we won't of been in Spain 183 days so no CGT will be applicable. So as we're planning on late July August for the move it would work out OK for us. Thank you again for this information, it could of been quite costly, hopefully it may help others too 😉

The money side of things is the make or break for most people.

The process itself cost me around £3,500 - the largest chunk being Private Medical Insurance

Then there is the hurdle of having sufficient funds to cover you initially for 12 months. In our case it was €33,000…€27k for main applicant plus €6k for each family member.

Hi

I have been reading the posts re Visa application and living in Camposol.

We have been coming to Camposol since 2008 and had a place on D but sold prior to Brexit as we were unsure what was going to happen once the UK cut its self adrift from Europe.

We were hoping to retire in Spain in around 2 1/2 years.

I have a few questions hope someone could clear these up.

(1) once retired can we transfer our NHS health over to the Spanish Health service?

(2) if not You Noted that your health costs circa around £3500 is this a yearly cost to be paid for 12 months or the first 5 years?

any help on the process of making ourselves resident would be helpful.

Afternoon John and Ben,

We are currently just waiting for our embassy appointment. We used a solicitor The Foreign Exchange (Louise) in Pinoso, Alicante. Everything was sorted by email. Louise was great, sorted the whole visa pack, translations and legalisations. €1200 for 2 of us which is very reasonable at some of the quotes we were given. If you need removals I can recommend Wiseguys, great service. We had 40m2 which was £5000. Again they sorted paperwork and import tax (which is an extra cost), mine was €381. I would start the process 2 -3 months before you want to move. Health Insurance was £1500 for the 2 of us also. I hope some of it is useful.

Regards

Mick

Hi mick,

Really great to hear that, and yes extremely helpful thank you. The solicitor seems very reasonable.. We haven't decided yet if we will attempt this ourselves but at that cost it may be easier to get the help. Removal companies are expensive so we are thinking of buying new furniture when there and taking just sentimental items. The timing is vital for us to avoid CGT so we have to plan it all just right. Once our house sells we are more than happy to live in our caravan.  Appreciate your message.

Regards

JBT.

Hi, I read recently on ' a place in the sun website' that  Brits of pension age, applying for a NLV in Spain from Nov 2021, can now use the S1 to have NHS funded health care in Spain as part of the proces, rather than private health care. I haven't seen this advice elsewhere so I don't know if it is watertight. I'm not hopeful as it wasn't trumpeted as one of the benefits of Brexit, along with crowns on our pint glasses, but it's worth checking out. I will shortly take tax and other advice from professionals and will keep you posted.

Hi mick, please may I ask who you used for health insurance as we have tried several but seem to be getting quotes of 3,4 even 5 thousand for one year . Both fairly young and no pre existing. Also, if anyone knows whether on a the 2 year renewal of visa do the embassy want to see 2 years worth of insurance cover ?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi all, I'm just in the Visa application process and doing it myself.  I simply used the email address on the Manchester Consulate website and they replied promptly with the date and time I had asked for.  They attach a list of everything you will need to take with you together with useful links.  They confirmed that an S1 is acceptable in place of Insurance and my experience of asking for an S1 was similarly prompt.  I am doing all this from Spain and flying back for the two appointments having almost completed my 90 day allowance.  I hope this is helpful!
