So following a relationship break up I’m thinking of following my dreams and moving to Spain.

I have 2 small dogs I’d be bringing with me..

I’ve just been searching A Place In The Sun’s website ...and found these villas

https://www.aplaceinthesun.com/property/details/ap2470815/amazing-villas-at-reduced-prices?fbclid=IwAR3ddyalB2ftTtzI0mq2jUpf0Q29SHnijQ-naH_LpQ3HOBQo6f9jmpwVcgo

Any helpful views on these, the area, moving to Spain, living costs, daily life etc. would be gratefully received.

Also as I’ll be on my own any regular groups/events etc giving me a change to meet new friends.

I have a house to sell so it’s not a quick process ...

And of course I’d come and look at the area first...

Thanks 😁

Emma

So very sorry to hear you are having a bad time. I have been there. Chin up!  Just have to say, please don't forget that now we have left the EU, you have to comply with schengen rules. Would you need a job? You have to prove you will not be a drain on Spanish resources. What is your pension like???  So sorry to be a bit harsh, but it is not as it was.

Hi Emma,

There are a lot of things to consider in moving over here. Probably the most pressing is the protection under the Brexit withdrawal agreement, which ensures future health care and state pension provisions, once you reach pension age, will not be guaranteed from January 1st 2021, so if as appears from your post, you intend to live here, the requirements are more stringent, especially in terms of the level of saving/income you have to show. Ideally, it would be beneficial to rent for a month or so to see the place for yourself and see if it suits you. Camposol, is not for everyone. Having said that. We moved here permanently 18 months ago and are very happy here. There are many bars, restaurants and places to meet people on Sectors A and B. The Monsora houses you have seen are on Sector Lower C, which is near he golf club, and a decent walk to A and B. You will likely need transport, as there is no public transport or taxis on Camposol. You may find it useful to join some of e local Facebook groups, such as Camposol and Preguntas y Mas I hope this is helpful and wish you good luck.

Thanks for your reply .. I had actually read the Camposol 2020 post but wanted a more helpful and positive reply than some of what I read on there to be honest.

Living in the Uk at the moment is pretty horrendous and I’ve wanted to move to Spain for a number of years.

I’m hoping this Covid situation is under control soon so I can pop over and have a proper look round the area myself as everyone has different requirements and expectations from an area I guess.

Thanks for your kind response 🙂I’m going to be looking into getting my Irish passport sorted (Dad’s half Irish and lived there for a while) to help with the Brexit mess that’s been created.

I’m only 51 so not quite pensionable age just yet 😁 and if I do it properly I should have a nice sum to live on but would still want to work to top my money up.

Just trying to work out my options right now as hate living in the UK.

Thanks for your really helpful reply.

As I said in another response I’m only 51 so by the time I would’ve reached whatever pension age is set at that time by then I’ll probably be dead anyway 🤣 if we even still have a state pension by then..

I’m looking for the lifestyle for now.

Ideas on basis day to day living costs would be helpful .. I know everyone is different as to what they spend but the basics like electric/water and services ...

Day to day costs can vary depending of type of house you buy. As a ball park, for a two bed house, you will pay about €40 every two months for water, probably between €50 and €75 per month electricity. If you buy the Monsora you mention, they have a community of owners and each property pays towards common costs, such as the communal pool. Sorry, I don’t know the monthly cost. I am sure someone who lives on that sector will know. Most of Camposol currently has no community fees, however your deeds will indicate your cuota, which is the percentage costs you would be required to contribute towards community costs, if ever the community of owners concept is adopted. (This is a very controversial subject).
To live here permanently you will need to apply for residency. The conditions change in January and you will need to show a substantial bank balance, or a regular income. In addition you will need to buy health insurance, which depending on whether you have existing conditions, can become expensive.

You will also have to pay IBI, which is the equivalent of council tax in the Uk, but much lower. For the house you are looking at, probably between €150 and €250 per year, not month! Your living costs will depend on whether you plan to eat and drink out a lot. Alcohol is much cheaper than in the UK, (but only if you don’t drink too much of it 😂😂), food and shopping costs are fairly similar, but it depends if you try to look for English options, such as Tesco, or are happy to “buy Spanish” which is much cheaper and dare I say it, more tasty and fresher, as Murcia is a major agricultural area. If you drive, at some time after you move here, you will need to change your English licence for a Spanish one and in future that will mean taking a Spanish driving test, in Spanish language. If you will need to work when you are here, please remember that There is a high level of unemployment here in Spain.
If all this sounds negative, it is not supposed to be, just some realism. As I said in my previous post, we moved here permanently and are glad we did. Nothing is impossible and if it really is your dream to move and live here, I am sure you will  succeed and one thing for sure, you will find a lot of people here willing to help you.

Good luck

Hola   (1) do you drive     only if you do   take a look at Sierra Golf     (2)  think about flooding       may pay to buy "high up!"

if you do drive  it is 20 mins to beaches  from Balsicas      in Los Alcazares   (sounds a bit like  Lo a cathres)    there is the Garden group

on a Monday     ran by Jakie

to buy     you can buy a lot cheaper away from the sea     a four floor house   basement   1st floor    2nd floor  then the solarium    with two beds  two bathrooms     all for €70,000   in Sierra Golf      (if a cash buyer even cheaper)

It is better to rent first          strong tip take your time    look around      Dave

If you can get your passport sorted, then please come. I am sure( well it worked for me) that you will have a great time. Anyway, feeling miserable in the sun, while drinking wine, somehow is soooo much better than being miserable in the grey and cold. Even in the middle of winter, you can sit out in the sunshine. Although  if you do rent, in the winter make sure it has heating . A woodburner or equivalent.  Nothing nicer than warming the bones in the sun, then coming in to a nice meal, bottle of wine and a real fire. Let me know when you get here and I will join you for a drink!
