I would not buy a Spanish car in the UK.

Getting a car purchase wrong for Spain could have serious consequences.

For example: It's vital to ensure that no debts are attached to the car. These can be outstanding finance and perhaps more seriously , traffic fines. If there are uncleared fines relating to the car, you may wind up being pursued for them.

If there is outstanding finance, you would simply lose the car when the recovery agents show up.

Speak to your accountant /solicitor before taking residency if you have just sold your property in the UK. You may be liable for capital gains tax in Spain. Get proper professional advice.

Surely if we’ve sold before moving out and before getting our residency we wouldn’t be liable to be taxed in Spain on the sale of our house in Uk. I will look into this as certainly don’t want to pay a huge capital gains tax bill. Thank you for flagging it up

It's a timing issue - broadly speaking if you sell in the UK in the same tax year as your residencia starts then you could be liable for CGT - worth getting professional advice...

Thank you for the advice, it’s good to know these things.

Sadly I don’t own a ‘nice’ expensive car, I was thinking of maybe trying to buy a Spanish reg LHD car here and then drive it over or drive my old banger over and then scrap it and buy a car when I get there.

I couldn’t leave my dog, he’s our baby, so the flying option isn’t really an option we’d consider. ...

...

As for the furniture i think maybe you’re right, it would be nice to start a fresh with some new stuff in our new home.

Thank you for your comments.

Hi lynn2901.. we shipped personal possessions... sold white goods furniture etc... as an add on with our UK home....we were lucky here all white goods in guarantee and furnishings to our taste.. will replace as and when.

Car we flew to take possession of property in October...returned to uk in December... did a road trip through France arriving in camposol 2days before our first Christmas in our new home....had car martriculated by Decklid... it cost us a great deal less than buying a LHD...we have a sports car..now only 10years ol but in excellent condition so couldn't  leave her in UK.

Hope this helps.... if you need cost e paid please PM me.

Happy to help

Gloria

So at last our move to Camposol is imminent, (October) we have found a buyer for our house here in uk and have secured a furnished rented property for 6 months on sector B and once we’re there will look around to buy a villa.

I’m in a dilemma about what we should bring, is it worth keeping all our furniture and paying for removals and paying for it to be stored in Spain? Or would we be better off selling it all here and replacing it all when we’ve bought our property there. ...

...

Do we bring our English car and then buy a Spanish one when we arrive or is it better to buy a LHD Spanish reg one here in uk to travel over in. ( we have a dog so need to come over by car)

Any tips and advise would be gratefully received.

Good luck Lynn I am moving over and moving to section D and waiting for a flight ✈️ to come over and sign up lynn most villas are sold furniture all in  Mick 😎

Good luck with your move Mick, hopefully you’ll get a flight very soon.

We have booked the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander, as we have the dog.

I really can’t wait to start a new chapter in our lives, I just hope that our move isn't  affected by the 2nd wave of Covid, it’s certainly a possibility with the way people are behaving here.

Maybe we should start up a group for all us newbies and have a get together.
