Hi My wife and i are trying to retire and live in Spain camposol hopefully. We are applying for a non-lucrative visa and pretty much have that covered. We were told that if we sell our property in the Uk and use the funds to purchase a property in Spain within the same tax year, we could be libel to capital gains tax in Spain at 20%. Anyone had this or know if this is correct.

You need to have spent 183 days in Spain before you become liable to pay taxes. I took my lump pension sum before and was not taxed on it. Try to sell your house before. Get legal advise from a gestor or lawyer. We use xerxes in the port by gran mundo for our tax returns. Helen is English and will explain everything to you. Good luck.
