Thanks Bob,

yes I,m very "handy".lol. My Dad was a builder, and I earned my pocket money as his labourer. Hope Lydia gets the confidence to diy.

Just blame Pauline if it all goes wrong!!! Lol

I have actually made and fitted flyscreens and Pauline is right, fitting the mesh is the easy bit, just need to keep it nice and tight!!

Gee thanks for that Bob, I,m sure Lydia following my instructions will do ok. As you used to make them, why are a lot of corners not stuck together properly.? The net seems to be what holds them together as they seem flimsy made and yes the tightness is extremely important. Forgot to add to Lydia spray polish the rails and they,ll slide better too.

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Pauline

The ones you buy in the DIY stores are not great quality.

I used to fit Insectocutor ones, which came in a kit with rigid corner brackets that slotted inside the rails giving them great strength, and, as long as you cut the rails accurately, all fitted perfectly.

Insectocutor are the UK company that introduced the circular flykiller lamps and electrified grid fly killers to market and, more recently, the green light lamps/tubes, rather than the lesser attractive blue uv light. Last time I dealt with this company they were owned by RIWA but I think they are now owned by Pelsis. Not sure if the screen kits are still available, my company used to sell them but, as you have seen,  most people are not confident to make them up so we de-stocked.

Bob

Hi Bob, mine were obviously done when windows were changed to double glazing by same company as all metal is attached to window frames(a light oak colour). The windows seem very well made, sturdy but not the mossies net frames. They do the job though. I am bringing a 12ftx8ft old brown powder coated Halls conservatory out here in September and guess what? I,m going to cover it with mossie net(although I,m bringing the glass too). We looked everwhere for a leanto greenhouse in Spain to do this, couldnt find and metal workers prices were extortionate for just the framework. So for £250 bought of facebook, I had to dismantle it and take away. The glass(single) is all wrapped now in foam underlay in our van with the metalwork and will be brought later. I could have had a white pvc double glazed conservatory free on facebook but colour wrong, glazing too heavy and pvc? unsure with the heat. I,m not glazing it as our Town hall has already fined us for illegal build(long story of corruption by translator and architect) and if I net it they cant claim its a habitable building. We,re in campo outside Villena, have a very windy front aspect, just want to cut wind at the door, so make a big porch, like they have in US a lot. If it is ignored by town hall for a few years, I might then glaze it. But if I ask for permission, I probably wont get it as our land is less than 10,000sq mtrs and rural rules are a nightmare. I will get my net from the local farmers cooperative as they will be cheapest, I want a roll not a few metres then net some gazebos too to keep flies out, so at 69yrs I,ll be busy for a while. We,re non resident as have house in UK to refurbish and sell so only planning on 2x3mnth stays per yr(as per Shengen rules even though still in EU) so it may go on for several years yet.

Regards

Pauline.

Hi again Pauline.

My company in UK sells fiberglass fly mesh by the metre but we buy it in 1.2m x 30 m rolls in grey or black.  I can get you a good price for a roll. If you are near East Sussex you could collect one but we ship throughout Uk

Best wishes

Bob

Thanks Bob

I dont think we,d ever be your area though and its just another heavy item to bring over, I hope Agricola will be cheap enough. Its funny you saying fibreglass, I have already made 2 outside door curtains with a fibreglass net which frays and I need to redo, the net also stretches out of shape? Yet in chinese shops(and on my mossies windows the net is more  like fine grey plastic and very durable(also its smaller holes than the white stuff I used,) which was bought in a small roll from ferreteria as mosquito net. I had my solarium retiled 2yrs ago and the guy used the identical net with rubber paint for waterproofing under the tiles and he called it fibreglass sheeting. I will be feeling my next lot.

Regards

Pauline.
