I take it this is your first pool ...just about everybody that has a pool has made inquiries about heating it some time or another ...and that's normally as far as it goes ...as soon as you find out the running cost of trying to keep a pool & the clouds warm 24hrs a day for 7 months out of the year ...you will soon forget about it ...all the information you require is on the ( net) solar heating is normally only used as a back up for a heat pump ...
Is it necessary to keep it running 24 hrs since we don't swim during the night ?

Yes you will need to leave the heater on 24/7 ...if you turn the heater off you would not be able to use the pool the next day as it would be freezing cold.
not a good idea then...

As I said before it was a good idea at the time...but I would not fancy paying your electricity bill .

You absolutely do not need to leave the heater on 24 hrs.....ours comes on overnight if the temp drops as we are on cheap night tarriff.
It works on the temp of the pool. We switch on at Easter that months bill from about 16C to 32C was 250€ following months around 100-150 depending on weather. its a big pool with a seperate jacuzzi too.
over the summer months its not necessary as we have a good cover and its in full sun all day. We keep the heater on till November so it means we can use the pool about 8 months of the year...depends on how much you are going to use but we swim every day...it would be such a waste without as without the heater it would only be warm enough for us for about 2 or 3 months.
Get a reliable pool company in to advise...our heater cost 4000€ but was installed as the pol was being built

We have a pool cover. Which has increased temperature from 18C to 28C.and can get pool even warmer.it also reduces water evaporation. It means we swim from April to October.
28 degrees would be perfect for me :-)
