English speaking Spanish solicitor recommendations please
Hello everybody, had to join your forum in order to speak to people on the ground over in Spain. My ex-wife died in Cartagena last April and did not make a Spanish will. At the time of her death, we were in the process of selling a property in Portugal. I wrongly assumed, that as the property was jointly owned, that the property would then be owned by me alone. We did not have a Portuguese will either, therefore the proceeds from the sale have to be divided among her heirs; me and our two sons. While waiting for the death certificate to be sent from Spain to my Portuguese solicitor in order to complete the sale, my solicitor began to compile all the other documentation required to facilitate the sale. We have only just received the correct death certificate from Spain last week, but the Spanish authorities are insisting that her inheritance must be dealt with by a Spanish solicitor, due to the fact she died there whilst being registered as resident there. Any recommendations for trustworthy solicitors in the Cartagena area would be greatfully received. Moral of the story: MAKE A WILL.
Best regards, Charles
