A wise decision.

As Norway is not part of the EU, what is the procedure you need to follow to gain residency?

yes that is true.Norway is not officially a member of European Union however Norway has signed EEA  and Schengen agreement. it means Norwegians are treated like other EU  countries citizens..there are aprox 50000 Norwegians living permanently in Spain, most of them retirees.

Hi,

I completely understand with you wishing to move from Norway because of the weather, and you are correct there are many Norwegians  living in this part of Spain, ( I used to go out with one) and the climate is so much better here.

However in answer to your question in regards to moving here in a few years, I would suggest you wait until you are actually ready to make the move, then I would rent for a period to find the area you prefer. Unfortunately as Norway is not in the EU you can only stay for a period of 60 days before returning to your native country.

Just keep reading the posts on here, you will find some very useful and unfortunately some not so.

To my knowledge Norwegians are treated Just like other EU citizens so this rule doesnt apply to the. I dont plan to buy at all.i will rather rent long term.

I understand what you are saying and this is what many people from the Uk assumed that they could just stay as long as they like, however now so many of them are finding realising they should have followed the rules and obtained a residencia.

If a Norwegian citizen wants to live in Spain legally, he or she must obtain a 'residencia' - after previously getting a NIE tax number and registering on the municipal register (padrón). ... However, in their case bilateral agreements allow them to live and work legally in Spain, providing they obtain a 'residencia'.
