We retraced our steps to all the shops we’d been to and asked, but no joy.

Unfortunately we were only in Cartagena for a short trip, and the queue at the police station was over 2 hours, so we had to leave.

All the cards have not been used so we’re sure they’ve been handed in somewhere.

You will have to have a police report for your insurance and credit card company if any use has happened since you reported the loss

But you really must cancel everything ASAP to be sure.

I lost my driving licence some time in the past (pick pocketed last year so maybe then). How many times do you check your licence?

An absolutely vile police officer in Cartagena made threats against me over it (to the point where I said I would report him, which shut him up) but I now do not dare drive a car without it, till I can get another one.

It is a felony, as in jail time, to knowingly drive without a licence, he said.

Believe it or not, he is in a position where he is supposed to help people.

You are very lucky you were not fined on the spot as required by law. Therefore I would consider you had a very understanding police officer.

 Criminal Procedure

For the criminal offence of driving without a driver’s license the judicial procedure carried out is very fast. In a first step, when the individual is caught by the police while driving without a license, the police immediately issue a fine. Moreover, the police or Guardia Civil immediately summons the individual and introduces all information into a report. Finally, this report is forwarded to the competent court.

i. The Proceedings in Court

It should be noted that, in court, the individual can either accept, appeal or deny the offence. Nevertheless, in case the individual denies or appeals, the judge investigates and judicial proceedings are following. However, in case the individual accepts the offence, the judge issues a legal sentence whereby the individual’s punishment is reduced by 1/3. Additionally, a judge issuing a legally binding decision must take into consideration certain things. As a result, the validity of past administrative decisions withdrawing the license of an individual is considered. This is done because it is an essential condition for the criminalization of the offence of driving without a license. However, in case administrative decisions are declared null and void, crimes cannot be substantiated and individuals not be sentenced under Art. 384 Código Penal.

I had an old driving licence which proved I had passed the test and was good to 2020.

As it was March 12th, I would guess that it is over.

I had a crazy woman pull out not many metres in front of me and no way I could stop. I had a busybody woman call the police, when not necessary. While the male cop looked after the collision, the female cop treated me as if I was at fault (I had a dashcam).

I have been using taxis since then, and they are not bad in this area.

Yes but it proved I passed a test rather than never having a licence and then getting in a car.
