Myself and my Wife are looking into moving to Cehegin and would like any pointers from anyone living there or nearby please.

Is there a good public transport service to Murcia or other major towns ?

What is the medical center like, can you get by with very little spanish, are any Doctors fairly good with English lol?

Any other useful info on the area would be really helpful, thank you

Cehegin has a population of about 15,000. There are plenty of bars and a few restaurants. Also a few pizza and kebab takeaways. No Indian restaurant :-(  There is a selection of shops including several supermarkets, hairdressers etc which you would expect to find in a small-ish  town. A museum too. No cinema though.

Local Police station and Guardia Civil station. Bus station. There is a bus between Cehegin and Murcia city, it's many years since I travelled on it, the journey takes an hour and a half or so if I remember correctly.

Road access is excellent, the RM15 is dual carriageway from Murcia city to Caravaca a few km to the west of Cehegin.

Nearest railway station is Calasparra to the north of us. Someone told me it had closed, not sure if that's true.

There is a municipal Sports Centre with indoor pool in the town and playing fields with an outdoor pool (open in the summer) on the outskirts of the town. Also privately run gyms.

Cehegin has a Health Centre with an Urgencia department which is open 24 hours. Doctors there speak very little English. There are several farmacias in the town, one is always open. There are 2 veterinary clinics.

The nearest hospital is at Caravaca. There is an A&E unit there and a good selection of  out-patient clinics. For anything specialised/serious there is the Arrixaca Hospital close to Murcia city.

There is a market every Wednesday morning.

The surrounding country is beautiful. Lots of orchards, apricots and peaches. Pine forests. We are sort of in the foothills of the Revolcadores mountains. Quite cold on winter nights, we have central heating and a woodburner. On summer nights we have the windows open and the breezes waft through (we live out in the country). We do not have air conditioning and don't find we need it.

There are quite a few British expats here but they count as a very small percentage of the population. This is a Spanish town, if you don't speak the language, you would be expected to take an interpreter for anything official.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to cut and paste this from another site, but at least you added a couple of lines to try to make it personal.

I saw this before I posted my questions , but wanted a perspective from people who lived there in their own words, their own take on the place.

As I said,  thank you for your time anyway, appreciated.

Haha you're right, I did copy and paste most of it - but all from my own previous posts!!

I can't think of much more to add really, we've lived here for 13 years. I remember that what struck us most about the town when we first came was how clean it is. We stayed in a B&B here with a view to making it our base and exploring various areas in NW Murcia but within 24 hours we had fallen in love with Cehegin and only looked at properties around here.

It's obviously a different lifestyle than on the coast, we didn't want to live in Expatland and as you're thinking of living here, presumably you don't either. I don't know if you are planning a visit soon - it's our Fiesta from 8th to 14th September.

I'm writing this between checking on the progress of the water. Today, we are flood irrigating our land (we have a finca with apricot trees). Not the best time of year to be stomping about in wellies. If you've ever read "Driving over Lemons" Chris describes watering his land by flood irrigating, his version is a bit more romantic, our canals are made of cement!! They won't be doing this on Camposol or any golf course urbanisation!

Best regards.

Lol.

Thanks for the info. I hate little england areas, nothing worse than moving abroad and EVERY bar or restaurant you walk into all you hear are the screeching of Brits. We loved Cehegin the first and only time ,as yet, we visited.

Are there any good transport links.

Where is the nearest hospital.

Can you get by at the health centre with very poor Spanish. We are trying but with not many opportunities to use it we are being slow learners.

Thanks 're the festival, what's the best day to come and where, old town at the top or main street etc.

Not much more to say re transport links, you can see the main roads around here on any map. The RM15 is never busy, it takes about 45 minutes to drive into Murcia city.

The town of Caravaca de la Cruz is about 7km west of Cehegin, that's the nearest Hospital.

To my knowledge, there is only one Doctor at the Health Centre who speaks English and he is not taking any more patients. Some of the others may speak a few words but not enough to have a consultation in English. Anything challenging, we take a translator with us. You may know this already, Doctors here do not tend to treat you themselves as they do in the UK, they are far more likely to send you to a specialist at the hospital.

Re the Fiesta, most of the activities are just off the Gran Via, in the park and on the Recinto Ferial next to it. The programme is not out yet but it usually follows the same format. It all starts about 9pm on the 8th with a parade. The next day is the day of the Sevillanas, lots of ladies walking about in flamenco style dresses and sevillana dancing. On the 10th, the Virgen statue will be taken in procession from the Convent where she lives to the Church right at the top of the town, on the last day of the Fiesta she returns home. During Fiesta week in the evenings there are a couple of concerts and a bullfight. Years ago, Cehegin used to have the most spectacular firework display on the last night. The financial crisis put paid to that but we have a new Mayor, I don't know if she will/can reinstate it. Oh, then there's the Naval Battle of Cehegin! It involves cannons and a LOT of water.

Wow, thank you for all that. Not into the bullfighting tbh, and didn't know there was a ring there ?
