Hi

My wife and I have had an offer accepted on a property in Le Tollo yesterday. The lawyers are now doing the conveyancing

We would be interested to hear from expats living in Cehegin about living in the area - general good, bad, experiences etc. We had a good look around the town and ate at a couple of the tapas bars and must say are pretty impressed. We are new to Spain but wish to immerse ourselves in the Spanish way of life.

Things that we are interested in

1. Where can we enroll for Spanish lessons

2. Recommended eateries

3. Are there any Golf societies run from Cehegin

4 how is best to meet new friends in Cehegin

5. Any motorbike clubs in Cehegin

This will do for starters

Hi,

There are several British who live in El Tollo. There are no urbanisations here, most expats live out in the campo, just a few actually live in town. To answer your questions:

1. There is, or was, at least one person who teaches Spanish in Cehegin but I don't know who. I am learning via "Spanish with Paul" on YouTube. There are many free lessons, I've gone on to buy his course which is excellent. It suits me to learn this way. You may prefer to learn face to face but I recommend you give the free lessons on YouTube a try first.

2. My personal favourite is Domingos on the edge of town. Not the cheapest but wonderful food. There are many in the town centre. Lucios restaurant in the Gran Via does good food, opposite is Evalos which is more of a bar. If you take the old Calle Mayor road up to the church at the top of Cehegin, there are several up there.

3. No, I don't know of any golf societies but there are numerous courses within an hours drive.

4. If you hang around Lucios or Evalos long enough, you'll come across the Brits! Wednesday is market day, many expats come into town and stop for a drink/eat/chat.

5. I don't know any Brits with bikes but there is a Spanish club:

Hope this is useful.

Hopefully we will then be able to meet up

Cheers

Can anyone tell me if there is a problem with flies in Cehegin the way it's a problem in Sucina and around Los Alcazares?  Thank you.

I've never been to Sucina but I have read posts on this forum about the problems with flies there. They can be a pain here, usually June and then again in September, but I don't think it's any worse than any other place with a hot climate.

Hi, Kalli, thanks for your response.  Is it to the point where its uncomfortable to eat out or to generally be outdoors?

No I don't think so, we always eat outside throughout the summer. It's difficult to say because everyone's different. I don't like flies but I don't get worked up about them - if you choose to live in a hot climate, you will get flies. We live out in the country they're probably worse here than in town.

Hi, have you tried using Coffee Break Spanish?  It's a series of 40 short podcasts but it's very, very easy and its sitting well for me alongside some tutored spanish lessons I'm having. If I had to use one resource to learn, that would be it. Also look at Wikihow - learning Spanish.  Good luck!
