Hi

We have a town house in the old Town of Cehegin and are looking for a recommendation, advice from any one on the cost of installing a pellet/log stove with back burner with potentially 4 to 5 radiators in 4 other rooms.

Something we would like to investigate installing in the next 2 years.

Any advice or recommendations very much appreciated.

TIA

Karen

While I think there are log burners with back boilers, we switched from a log burner (without a back boiler) to a propane heating system (combi-boiler and radiators). All-in-all, no operating mess, nothing to clear out each morning, no need to obtain and store logs (that, in turn, store insects), everything works at the touch of a button, etc.

We initially used a bank of small (knee high) gas bottles, with refills delivered and connected on demand, but we recently upgraded to a bulk propane storage tank.

The propane option might suit you. If you are holiday-homers, the bank of small bottles would be more cost-effective, as the bulk propane tank is (effectively) rented.

If you want a "real flame" to look at, there are gas fires that offer this.

Thank you Will for taking the time to reply to me.

We will add this to our options too, we hadnt thought of gas, it is a holiday home at the minute but we plan to move permanently in the next 3-5 years so we want the most sustainable solution.

It has given me food for thought.

Kind regards

Karen

When we bought our 2 bedroom house here in Mula, there was central heating already installed, using those huge blue gas bottles which cost us over 60 euros each. Once we discovered how quickly the central heating used those bottles we soon changed to a different method of heating!

The radiators have all been taken out and we have solar panels for both the house and our swimming pool. We also have dual-purpose aircons in 3 rooms, and there is still the log fire for that cosy look!

Hi Trish

Thank you for responding.

We are struggling to get information on central heating, ideally we would like a log or pellet burner hooked up to the radiators and stay away from gas (as you mentioned it can get expensive).

Does your solar power heat your house?  Was it expensive to install?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks

Karen

Solar isnt cheap to install but then again neither are a lot of things.

From memory I think the panels for the house were 5000 euros but after that you dont keep on paying for gas or wood or pellets. That was done about 4 years ago I think. While the sun is shining it covers a lot of the electric that we use in the house... aircon/heat/cool, fridge/freezer, lights, washing machine etc.

We dont have a feed-in system so our elect is only free while the sun is shining.

Its worth considering. We have contact details for two companies. One Spanish, one British.

Thank you Trisha

I will investigate further and talk to my husband.  Do you mind me contacting you if we need contacts of trades people for the Solar.?

It is a bit of an investment with the solar panels and also the aircon/heaters.  We will see what option is best for us radiators or aircon/heaters :-)

Kind regards

Karen

The tall blue bottles are the most expensive way (Eu/Kg) to buy gas.

We are also looking into solar. Our neighbours have just had it installed, so we will be able to learn from them the real benefits, etc.

The link to their supplier is Green Solar - Home (green-solar.es)   I think there are numerous suppliers to choose from.

They bought the 6.3kw array, costing around Eu 7500.

They are able to export surplus to the network (and get paid for it).

We are thinking about solar, because it potentially opens the door to a heat pump for the pool, and maybe a plug-in electric car in due course.
