Advice on which bank to use to pay direct debits and have access to cash

When we first bought our property we needed a partial mortgage and we were advised to apply to Banco Sabadell. Initially, we were pleased with the service we received from Banco Sabadell, but we were paying a service charge of €35 per quarter.

After Brexit, we then found that there were high charges for transferring money in from the UK; and the exchange rate provided was about 4% worse than we could get elsewhere. They suggested changing to a premium account where, provided we pay in a minimum of €700 per month by Standing Order from our UK bank, there would be nil charges. In fact, this removed the €35 per quarter charge, but we will still be charged if we pay any extra money than the €700 per month. On another point, you only get free cash withdrawals from an ATM at a Banco Sabadell branch (there are small fees (€2-3) if you withdraw at any other bank.

I have seen other people on this forum recommending other banks, but also that people had issues transferring direct debits to other banks.

I also have an account with Revolut, which offers great exchange rates and no fees (and I have seen other people on this forum recommend a similar bank - TransferWise) - and I am considering moving all my Spanish banking to Revolut.

The Cajamar "Wefferent Account" is excellent for paying dd using the card in shops and a very important thing withdrawing cash from there ATMs

If you do not wishto set up a DD just recive your bills on line and pay by card

I am thinking about Opening a Euro Wise Account its seemly free Account and accepts DDR from it.Just need to open Account then switch DDR with Companies from Help from this Forum.Bank Sabadell charging €40 every 3mth total rip off they didnt even bother to send replacement card out when old one expired.There excuse was because I hadnt used it.We travel to Holiday Apartment at most 4 times a Year then Covid unable to travel what do they expect.

I have this account with Wise but if you want to withdraw cash from  am ATM you will be charged by the Spanish bank. see my previous posts

Bankinter make it up as they go along terrible bank started off  paying 25 euro every 6 months. Then increased to 45euro then this month 60 euro not sure if this is every 6 months or every  quarter. Im non resident actually makes me sad  that we are a soft touch . Its made me pull my finger out using gradually transferring direct debits to wise and opening cajamar and  big thank you especially to pauline and also martyn for their advice hopefully i will feel happier when i leave the rip off banks. Who con non residents. And probably residents as well
