Flat tyre

I think they have to be the same make but I can't find any legal guidance on the fact.

Cheers Roland, thanks for your comments I've  the same problem, can't understand why perfectly good tyres need to be scrapped because the other ones being replaced,surely thats not the intention. I would have thought that if the tread is legal and both are showing the same markings it's legal regardless of make.Maybe suits to confuse us,

Hi, just thought you would like to know. Cars were never designed to stand still for long lengths of time. The weight on the same area of the tyre causes a flat tyre. So this is why it is best if possible to keep it turned over daily with a drive round a small area to relieve the pressure on the same tyre area. Also for your safety it is best to have identical tyre makes on the same axle.

Partly correct SL. Not required to move daily, the tyres will be be perfectly ok being static for a few weeks, then move the vehicle just a few inches to displace the pressure to a different part of the tyre. Cars or caravans remaining static for extended periods are main culprits, it damages the reinforcing structure inside the rubber. Strong sunlight also causes them damage. Some go to the extent of removing the wheels and fitting axle stands, although a little drastic!!

Both tyres on the same axle has to be identical, not the same code or size obviously- identical.  That's means the tyres would be the same maker etc.. Most likely explanation why garages changing the both tyres that they simply haven't got the same, indentical,  tyre. ( Or not even bother to find  one ) Don't think so they oblige by any law not to change just one though.

Take off the wheel. Take it to garage and ask to fit tyre same specs as the other one. Have details ready. Can't see them refusing to sell you a tyre. 

If it is a nail or a screw in the tyres you can buy a tubeless repair kit off eBay about £10.00 and repair it yourself follow the instructions it would also a good idea to buy a air compressor you can plug into you cigarette lighter socket save your self and friends a fortune
