180 Days in Spain

This is a great Facebook Page to join if you own a property in Spain and use it as a holiday home, under new post Brexit Rules we can only spend 90 days in 180 days in Spain or any other EU Country but EU Residents can spend up to 180 days continuously in the U.K, members of this page are campaigning to get this rule changed for home owners like us to able to spend 180 days continuously in Spain.

Third countries such as the UK have the same rules. Why would Spain or the EU make any exceptions for a country that voluntarily left the bloc because they thought that there were too many immigrants coming in? You voted for it, live with it!

I don't know who you are but presumably you live in Spain and are British and own a property well if this 90 day rule is not rescinded your property value will drop big time, bars, restaurants and shops in your area will close because the Costa Calida Coast relies on tourists and holiday home owners from the U.K  you only have to look at Corvera Airport as an example. I most certainly did not vote to leave the EU so don't ever accuse me of that and I'm sure you'll be joining the que for the Oxford University Covid Vaccine that was pioneered in what you are now calling a third world country.

The 90 day rule has been about for years.

Yes, I do permanently Iive in Spain and have done for almost 38 years and have also bought and sold various properties during that time. The 90 day rule has always been applicable for non-residents of Spain but as the UK was a member of the EU it was never really enforced (hence so many Brits living under the radar) but with the Schengen ETIAS rules coming into force this year, there will be a lot more control of those who enter and leave EU countries. As the UK is now a third country (not a third world country!) passport checks and possible entry and exit stamps will be the norm and anyone overstaying could incur a fine and even a ban on re-entering the country for 5 years. There are thousands of Spanish property owners from non-EU countries who have been living with the 90 day rule quite successfully and their properties have not dropped in value because they can only personally use them for 90 days at a time! The world will not come to an end because British property owners can now only spend 90 days in every 180 in their properties. The newest property markets now include Belgians, Scandinavians, Russians and other European citizens, who are still keen to buy properties in Spain. I will not be in any queue for the Oxford-Astra-Zeneca (the Swedish-British pharmaceutical company) vaccine, as Spain is vaccinating with the Pfizer vaccine and my health-care comes from Spain, not from the UK.

Mags, that's a much more helpful and informative reply you got my back up with your first reply 'you voted for it live with it' and I agree many people did live under the radar during the EU period and this has rightly been stopped but I can't see any harm in people like myself who own property in your lovely country trying to get an 180 day rule for property owners or pay an extra tax for a visa extension as a Spanish non resident home owner.

Hi

We are in a fortunate position that we could get residence in Spain as I have a very good pension and own property in England & Camposol but my wife has her own catering business and does not want to retire so at the moment we are happy to spend time in England and Spain (Covid depending) and would willingly pay an extra non residence tax for a visa to allow us more time in Spain rather than watching the clock on the 90 day rule.
