after a diaboloical a.m at the drs the receptionist who sadly has replaced anna, I found to be so ignorant even after I transcribed into spanish my reason for being there, refused to be of any help!!she just sat there and said no comprende Is this the new norm,we cant even ring in for appts, we have to go in in person. hows that going to work and keep infections at bay, some people cant afford translators. What about them? I thought we were supposed to get the same kind of treatment as in Uk,Is it me or are there others that feel the same 3rd class health care here.

Appointments at most health centres can be made online or via the Cita Previa app! You may be angry that you are unable to understand or be understood by the Spanish receptionist in the Spanish health centre but maybe the fault is not with her. You chose to live in Spain and it's really up to you to learn to speak the language and not up to everyone else to pander to you. If you think that the UK health system is better and that Spain is 3rd world, then maybe you're living in the wrong country. I think that you'll find that most British immigrants who have moved and have fully integrated themselves in Spain, will tell you how much better the Spanish health system is in comparison to the UK system. I also wonder how many receptionists in the UK health centres speak Spanish, German, French etc. etc.!!

I agree completely with what Mags 44 has said. There are clear signs, in English, at the health centre that if you cannot speak Spanish, you should take an interpreter with you. It is not the receptionist at fault here!  There are interpreters who offer their services at the health centre, to assist people who do not speak Spanish. This is their living and they are entitled to charge for their services, so the choice is yours. Pay an interpreter or use the money to take Spanish lessons. In the meantime download the app on AppStore or Google play and make your appointments. Good luck as you really don’t want to risk your health by not being able to explain what is wrong with you, other than your attitude.

Debbie Shaw, a translator on Camposol A, used to have a discount scheme for appointments at the medical centre.

I don't know if she still does but is was something like 65 euro for the year if I remember.

I have been in the Spanish health system for over 20 years, have never had a problem.

If I may say perhaps it was your attitude towards the person in reception? your post sounds very angry and why should the receptionist that you call Anna not have been replaced? maybe she was ill or on holiday.

As previous posters have stated you can easily obtain an appointment on line normally within 2/3 days. I have put the link below, however I consider you should have obtained this yourself.

A friend of mine in the UK informs me it is practically impossible to gain a doctors appointment and when you do get one it is by the telephone only, and she has been registered with the surgery for over 50years,

I do not consider knocking the health system here to be very friendly to your host country,  as you have been her for at least 3 years I would have thought you would be aware of the systems in place, and know how to use them.

I know Camposol is a good urbanisation for many people but Spain is a very large country and has much to offer without complaining.

I think that Kassie should picture herself in a UK doctor’s waiting room where a Spanish lady is getting bolshy because the receptionist doesn’t speak Spanish. So many Spanish people speak English that people like you seem to take it for granted and are too lazy to bother learning the language of the country that you have chosen to live in. Even worse, you complain about it! And in the two years I have been here I have got used to the system, that you can book appointments online etc and I feel the Spanish health service is excellent. Certainly not inferior to The UK!

Very well said. I have been fortunate not to need to see a doctor but if I did I would pay an interpreter. Small price to pay for living here

Hi Kassie,

I have had similar problems making myself understood by the receptionist, who was most unhelpful.  We have just moved here from Torrevieja, where the doctors' receptionists all spoke good English.  Although it would be ideal if we could all be fluent in Spanish, sadly especially for older people, that is not going to happen and in an area with a large percentage of mainly English speakers, it would make sense to have receptionists who also speak some English.  As you said, not everyone can afford an interpreter.

I have been quite surprised at how unpleasant some of your replies have been about the fact that you are not fluent in Spanish, yet have the temerity to visit the doctors, even though the UK is picking up the bill.
