GOV.UK states: "Travel from Spain and its islands

If you are travelling to England from Spain, including the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands (Formentera, Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca), you are advised to take a PCR type test before travel."

Why are so many people, seemingly, taking antigen test instead.?

I'm told by next weekend's visitors (whom I have to book tests for) that Ryanair specify PCR too.

They're both double-jabbed if that makes a difference.

Cheers 'n' Beers

Thank-you Roland, the very advice I quoted in my question.

If PCR is "advised" why do so many seem to have the antigen/lateral flow test and, seemingly, get away with it ?

Get away with it ??

No.

If the antigen tests meet the required standards then that antigen test is acceptable.

It is only an advisory. Why pay more when a €15 antigen is acceptable.
