The new rules in England limiting foreign travel provide an exclusion for buying a house, moving home etc. They also include the 'Stanley exception' to travel to carry out repairs, etc. on a property owned abroad.

However, the Spanish rules to enter Spain only allow UK citizens who are residents of Spain, or who have an application for residency in progress.

EU citizens (e.g. Irish citizens) are free to enter Spain (in general).

From 1st April Spain has lifted restrictions and, as such, you do not have to be a resident (or applied for residencia) to be admitted into the country.

Of course, there is the is the issue of whether you should be travelling, given that Europe/Spain is probably going to experience yet another wave of the virus!

I think its just “fishing for customers” from Estate Agents…..

Here a threat I found somewhere else.

Question was:

I can see this getting massively abused ....

Just received this email from a Spanish Estate Agents (I must be on their database from when I was looking)

View a property in Spain and get a Letter for Essential Travel which allows you to leave the UK and enter Spain from April....

Here the answers:

I have bought a property but still haven't travelled to it due to restrictions. There are still virtually no flights from UK, and even if there are more soon I think those entering from UK have to show proof of a 72 hour PCR test. It's a nightmare,I'm hoping by end of April,or sometime in June things will be better and all we might need is proof of vaccination/vaccinations, and flights are up and running.

Here is the update from Adrian:

The rumours travel allowed to buy, rent etc

comes from the UK GOV / UK sites

and is NOT confirmed by the Spain GOV:

I am in a similar position I bought an apartment in Los Alcaseres mid lockdown last year and really need to organise a few things.

Although I did manage to find a key holder there are many loose ends that only I can sort out.
I am hoping for some sort of travel in June.
