We are told today the uk govt is to do flights from India and parkistan ?? These people went on holiday in the middle of a pandemic people in uk are starving with little or no money why should these people be assisted when they thought nothing when they flew over there one couple with 4 children only went 2 weeks ago

What a waste of resources

Perhaps you should watch the people on the streets in the uk with no food and no where to live there are many thousands and the point was assisted flights for people flying against home office advice then wanting help to get out of the problems they got themselves in

I understand that the prime minister has said the they are to be homed during the crisis.

Also many of these people do not want the help, are alcoholics or drug users, many getting help from the state to to spend on there habits.

As for assisted flights, I am aware of people over here that have homes in the UK, as well as a second home in Spain, they are trying to get back to the UK because they have never bothered to register here and fear if they do fall ill they would not get the trament.

With regard to repatriation my wife works as a carer in the uk two weeks on four weeks off she was at the start of her shift and has since been trapped in the uk but I hope everyone who NEEDS to return to anywhere should do so but not assist people who went on holiday against govt advice who are now looking to be returned from Pakistan with their 4 children because the health care in the uk is superior

I do not think we disagree it is a time when things must be treated on a need basis

As I said before the UK government had given a fund to all local councils to home the homeless during this  crisis I believe it is 3.4 billion and as I stated many are in this situation, because they misuse the handouts they get from the state for alcohol and drugs.

As for repatriation flights, theses are to be paid by the person that is returning to the UK

As for the holiday makers you refer to, if  British government had put restrictions on leaving the country the travel company would have cancelled their holidays, so I would consider it is the governments fault.and I hope they enjoyed there holiday.

You seem to refer to this case in Pakistan as your main beef. You state your wife is trapped in the UK perhaps being a carer, she should not have travelled knowing there was a crisis.

There is many families without food in the UK.

The government is doing a great job for all those 80000 who enroled on dhss in one week due to all work stopped.

But unfortunately if you are self employed then the 80% sickness assistance will be given at the end of June. Along time with no wage to feed a family.

All food prices have tripled.

Rental accommodation, landlords not getting their rent, more debt and eviction occurs.

The parks still full of homeless.

All elderly and vulnerable were meant to get a letter off councils to assist in food provisions. 2 weeks later still no letters arrived.

Drug dealers have freedom of movement with police so stretched looking after us. Dealers easy to spot going from one house to another selling product. Kids stuck in the house.

UK not so friendly as every next house is having lock down parties, with groups and loud music. Poor neighbours.

So on the street life is very much a different reality. I am sure the government will hold up its promises but at the moment families are hungry

I suggest you stop worrying about people just in the UK if you are a legal resident in Spain I suggest you look at this country.

Many homeless here but again the government are doing something about that, also many other people throughout the world'

So I suggest you just be grateful for what you have.

The original post was about repatriation. In the UK we are being asked, not instructed to stay at home, and most of the population has complied with this request. However, what is extremely annoying are the number of passenger flights landing at Heathrow from Italy, New York and other locations (hot spots) around the world, and passengers not even checked or quarantined! We are holding our side of the bargain, but the benefits of reducing contamination could be undone in a second by these people who are being repatriated.

If you're stuck in Spain....stay there!

This is a global problem and I think all countries should look after foreigners stuck for whatever reason in their country until the crisis is over. Only essential medical supplies should be flown during this period, and all crew members checked.

You only have to look at how S Korea dealt with the problem, they are now well into recovery.

Things are tough in the UK, but I've not experienced any rise in food prices, in fact food is plentiful and still on offer in the supermarkets.
