Hello

We come from Sweden and live in Los Alcazares. We are not "Residents" but have lived here now because of Covid -19 for quite some time.

We are retired and will continue to live here for most of the year. We wonder if anyone knows how it works with the vaccination here for those of us who are not permanent residents here.

if you intend to live here most of the year it's unfair not to register. that is how the region's get their most funding from central government to provide the services you will be using

If you are not on the Spanish national health service you will need to register temporarily at your local health centre. You should bring any relevant documentation, such as passport etc, and you need to tell them you wish to register temporarily for the vaccination only. The Spanish government has assured everyone they will be able to have the vaccination if they want, and there is no charge. As for residence, if you intend to stay in Spain for most of the year you must register as resident, you have no choice, it's the law in Spain!. It's not difficult, particularly as you are already EU citizens.

Just like not having a padron the region does not get it correct allowance for the Covid vaccine. It also means that as a resident in Spain you have to complete your annual tax return and pay Spanish tax here as was said previously "it is the law".  People living here as residents and applying for their TIE will now be flagged up for their tax return and possible investigation  - penalties are very high in Spain!!!!!!

Hi Birgitta,

The advice you’ve been given is somewhat confused and a little inaccurate. The other commentators are talking about 3 different things:

1. The Padron. Yes you should register for this through the Town Hall, appointments can be booked online, but you still need to attend an appointment. This is the mechanism through which LA gets its funding from central government. However, it WON’T get you a Covid vaccination.

2. Residencia, this is what you legally need to do once you’ve lived in Spain for more than 6 months. This is a far more complicated process, but again WON’T get you you’re vaccination.

3. To get the vaccination you need to either register for a temporary SIP card. This is done through an appointment system at the LA medical centre. The next appointments are for around 6 weeks time, then you’ll need to be called for the jab, so you’ll still not get a vaccine anytime soon.
There is now an online registration system for the Covid vaccines. The easiest way to do this is to go into the Liberty Seguros office (Av. Marqués de Rozalejo, 134, 30710 Los Alcázares, Murcia) by where the Saturday market is in LA. They speak English and will register you for free. It is then a case of waiting for a phone call off the health authority to come for your jab. Currently these are being carried out in San Javier, but they are looking at setting up more stations in LA.

They are currently doing the over 60s, but should be doing the 50s very shortly, maybe this week.
This service is designed for people who aren’t in the Spanish healthcare system, such as those with private insurance.

Good luck and stay safe.

A word of warning. Just be aware that just because you have an appointment via a phone call from a call centre in Murcia for your vaccine it may not be administered when you go to the centre.  Two days ago I received a phone call to inform me to go the San Javier vaccine centre this morning at a particular time. I arrived with 30 minutes before my allocated time. Q’ed up and was impressed with how fast it was moving. On getting to the desk I passed on my cards to the lady at one of the desks. She could not find me on the computer list. I had to go to a supervisor who said I could not have it as I was not on the list. He said they have had some issues (and I noticed a number of people being refused) and was very apologetic but said there was nothing he could do and I will have to wait to be called again in a couple of weeks. So this is just a warning that even with a confirmation phone call it does not actually mean you WILL get your jab!!
