Hi Birgitta,
The advice you’ve been given is somewhat confused and a little inaccurate. The other commentators are talking about 3 different things:
1. The Padron. Yes you should register for this through the Town Hall, appointments can be booked online, but you still need to attend an appointment. This is the mechanism through which LA gets its funding from central government. However, it WON’T get you a Covid vaccination.
2. Residencia, this is what you legally need to do once you’ve lived in Spain for more than 6 months. This is a far more complicated process, but again WON’T get you you’re vaccination.
3. To get the vaccination you need to either register for a temporary SIP card. This is done through an appointment system at the LA medical centre. The next appointments are for around 6 weeks time, then you’ll need to be called for the jab, so you’ll still not get a vaccine anytime soon.
There is now an online registration system for the Covid vaccines. The easiest way to do this is to go into the Liberty Seguros office (Av. Marqués de Rozalejo, 134, 30710 Los Alcázares, Murcia) by where the Saturday market is in LA. They speak English and will register you for free. It is then a case of waiting for a phone call off the health authority to come for your jab. Currently these are being carried out in San Javier, but they are looking at setting up more stations in LA.
They are currently doing the over 60s, but should be doing the 50s very shortly, maybe this week.
This service is designed for people who aren’t in the Spanish healthcare system, such as those with private insurance.
Good luck and stay safe.
