Hi, myself and my partner are hoping to apply for Non Lucrative Visas soon. We are not married but have lived together for around 9 months. I am male 60 years my partner is female 56 years. Could anyone tell me if we would be eligible for a joint application please ? We fit the criteria in every other way, finances etc. Thanks, Keith

You don't need to be married.

You will each need to apply and pay the appropriate visa costs, however, your finances can be considered jointly, so you will 'just' need to prove the combined approx. €34,500 pa, not 2 x €27,000. Whoever shows the larger part of income and assets may need to sign a statement confirming that they will be financially responsible for the other person.

Hope this helps!

Hi Rich. Thank you again for your reply. Since the post I have spoken to Chris from Upsticks, and he has said that we need to be married for a joint application, which has now confused me. I obviously want to get things right for our visa application, a joint application would be preferable as it would free up more cash for a house purchase for us. Do you have personal experience of a joint application ? We are moving from England and will be going to the Manchester consulate. Thanks, Keith

We are not married but did a nlv from Manchester ..one person probably the main income person will have to accept the other one as a dependant.. the income requirement for a non dependant is fairly negligible so .

Years ago before all this post-Brexit nonsense we moved to Andalucia, and had to obtain a "certificate de conviviencia", showing IIRC 5 years of bills at the same address some in each name.

I would understand if the authorities would be a bit wary of a relationship of such a short time?

Might be easiest to get married...

Hi Keith

We were / are not married; we applied via the Manchester consulate as a joint application (you still need to pay the visa fee each); and, as I stated above, I had to sign a statement confirming that I was financially responsible for my partner as almost all our assets were in my name.

I used Raquel Moreno at BeGlobal Attorneys - contact details below; and would certainly recommend her. If you do contact her, then please say that Richard Tasker recommended her to you.
