I cycle there frequently from our place near Los Alcazares since we bought there last March. Los Nietos looks very Spanish, water always looks incredibly calm and inviting, some lovely looking beaches, tram station to take you to Cartegena. All in all looks great to me and I haven't seen a downside. Not as many bars as other places but that just means a bit longer to enjoy a walk or cycle as far as I'm concerned.

We own an apartment in Los Nietos.  No issues except maybe the centre needs a few more places to eat and the promenade could do with replacement paving slabs.

It has a GP and pharmacy and the Renfe to Cartagena is a big plus.

I am happy to share my first thoughts and experiences with you if you consider living in Los Nietos partially or permanently. We have purchased a really cheap, but nice appartment at the end of the village towards Islas Menores in Oct 2022 and have just started to equip it for extended holiday times and in future for longer stays after retirement.

Well, most of us know that Los Nietos is not a particularly attractive village. Despite all the neglect by the regional authorities (look at the poor water front, the many run down houses) it still remains somewhat of this unique retro charm which sends you back to the 70ies and 80ies. BUT, people here is really friendly, nice and modest (I admit that I speak fluently Spanish). The surroundings are beautiful - whether you take the bike towards Cabos de Palos or La Manga or towards the superb regional park Calblanque. I really like the place because its location between both seas. Also the water quality of the Mar Menor is better than its reputation outside (at least since Oct 2022). Another plus of Los Nietos is the train to Cartagena. Me personally I like that Los Nietos is really calm. What a contrast to Cabo de Palos or La Manga. And the official dog beach (we have a water dog) is just in front of our appartment - what else do you want?

Of course, there are better and worse places in Los Nietos where to buy. But for those who still consider a purchase you have an incredible choice.

So far, I am really happy that I bought here. I can hardly imagine a better value for money. Of course, if the authorities would fulfill their promises and renovate the waterfront in the same way as nearby Islas Menores, I would be even happier. But I still hope this will come one day and a bit more of touristic life in summer months comes back to this village.

Happy to receive your further questions

Cheers, Chris
