Good morning all, we have just paid our fee to reserve a property in Valle de sol. We are being asked by the solicitor for 1,000 euros to get military permission. I had a look on a couple of sites and it states that it was abolished in 2018. We aren’t buying a plot of land, which they say still needs permission, it’s a house. Can anyone be kind enough to help please? We are in the uk still, until everything goes through. Many thanks in advance for any help. Karen

This is still required, especially as UK is now not part of the EU.

Please see this link which explains https://www.mylawyerinspain.com/blog/military-permit-british/

You may wish to shop around for other price quotations though, as €1,000 feels quite high.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Rich, I’ve just emailed the solicitor saying that 1,000 euros is top money and could she confirm the cost. Thanks so much for your help. I might be picking your brain again, if you don’t mind. K

When we bought our property in San Pedro del Pinatar two years ago, we enquired about this and we were told by our lawyer that these permissions were only ever necessary for individual properties set out in the campo and did not apply to properties on developments or in urban areas. There should be some information on this topic on the Citizens' Advice Bureau Spain's website.

Hi Mags, thanks for your info… we’ve been told that the land registry have said it is compulsory. I did do some research, and there are quite a few conflicting reports. The solicitor has dropped her fee though. K

We bought last year on the other side on los molinos ...our solicitor who we have used twice before for property purchases and one sale said it might be a requirement..on investigation it wasn't necessary..just part of the overall sale diligence not a critical stumbling block add on

I would ask for your money back. I can give you the contact details of an excellent solicitor if you like. Regards. Paul
