Hey! I am hoping someone can help me please.. Not for want of much attempted research, including on this site, I am really confused about how to change registered address for my car having moved house.. I have been told you can do it online, but cannot find out where to do this - does anyone know the link for this please? ALSO, I am non-resident and any instructions I have found have said you need to take ID to Traffico etc which must include your Padron. As a N-R I am not on the Padron (yes I know this is possible), so even more confusing! Any help gratefully received, thank you! :0)

Well maybe you get your padron and that would make things much simpler for you it also assists the local councile with extra funds from the goverment.

Only problems are that it is against the law for a council to register non-residents on the padron (they would be claiming fraudulently for allowances meant for residents only), and that if the taxman decides to investigate you for tax avoidance being on the padron can be evidence of your residency.

...cy.

It is not against the law to register on the pardon as a non resident.

By law you only need to register if you are a full-time resident in Spain. However, because the certificate is the most widely accepted official proof of address, many non-resident property owners register on the 'padrón', simply because it makes it easier to get a lot of things done.

I did not say it was illegal to register: I said it is illegal for a council to register non-residents....

I did say it can be unwise for non-residents to register...
