The Spanish "system" has been put in place by successive elected Spanish governments.

It is not unfair.

Many Brits (and maybe others) don't do their homework before committing to a life in Spain, and then moan when reality hits them.

The UK applies some similar tax liabilities on the worldwide assets and income of resident foreigners.

Fine but I never heard of anything like it before Spain but I do not live here just holiday and would not choose to live here

This is how the UK does it ... pretty similar to Spain in principle.

Would you not live in the UK ?

We took residency out last year and this is what we needed to get it passed... We have the standard package, no excess. You purchase a book of vouchers about 6 per person for 12 euros... So then you take one of the vouchers every time you see the doctor... Or pay a visit to the hospital... It's v...

Thanks for the response Betsy - i will definitely look into Assa.

Don't use ASSA. My wife had to be admitted to hospital with acute abdominal pains. A week later Assa refused to pay for any further treatment/surgery as her condition had in fact been developing undetected for at least 5 or 6 years. On joining ASSA asked for pre-existing  conditions but not for any tests/scans for any latent issues. Needless to say less than impressed. Now not renewing as we have the 12 months residency to allow us to sign up for the convenio especial, better value and covers ALL medical issues, new or existing.
