Hi
Can anyone tell me where I can get a English copy of the Spanish high way code please
I shouldn't bother. The Spanish are the worst drivers imaginable. Giving way at junctions are ignored as are stopping for pedestrians at zebra crossings. Oh, and indicators are optional extras particularly at roundabouts. Best to have eyes in the back of your head especially for the numerous cyclists taking up the whole road !

in 20 years I've had two car accidents. one a British driver rear ended me while on his phone not too much damage and he paid for repairs. two a really bad T bone by a Russian who came through as stop sign with a number of Children in his car. had fractured ribs a the car was a write off the saving grace for me in both cases was having a dash cam. in addition the Guardia Civil were amazing both during the second accldent and later visiting me hospatital to ensure I had had all the info I needed. In both cases the cars were Spanish reg . Also my insures were amazing my advice would be get a dash cam , it's well worth the cost
Totally agree with you Rick43. Worth their weight in gold !

Well in my experience, many of the accidents are caused by those who are not sure on which side of the road they should be driving and don't understand the road signs and of course because they are convinced that everything in and from the UK is the best in the world and can't be beaten by anyone or anything! A little humility and respect for the country that certain people have chosen to move to might be a good start in learning how to live in harmony with the world!

Re Cylists taking up all road ....
The highway law (to my and hubby's amazment) is that vehicle drivers must treat 2 or more cylists as a whole vehicle. eg - if there are 6 cyclists riding in groups of 2 and straggling the road, they are legally entitled to do so. Also at turnings and round-a-bouts you must allow/give way for every cylist in that group - as if it was one whole vehicle turning or entering/leaving the road you are on. It is illegal to cut them up or try to dodge inbetween them to get ahead........ Amazing isn't it!
Apparently they've now introduced something almost similar in the UK.
There were quite a few other highway codes that we were totally unaware of until we got the highway code book. My advice is get one. They're obtainable from any driving school. They cost a bit though - the driving school in Los Alc charged us €25

Totally agree, my experience over 18 years driving in different parts of Spain is that Spanish drivers compare very favourably with drivers in most parts of the world that I have driven in. One exception would be that yes, they are not great with indicators, particularly at roundabouts but they are courteous and well behaved on the roads. I can't comment on accidents as I've not had the misfortune to be involved in one yet but from what I hear if you are in trouble there is plenty of the right kind of help readily available l. I'm sorry to hear that ITH (commentator) has had a different experience

Strongly. Disagree. Our experience is the opposite of yours. Spanish drivers dont seem to use signals, at least until the very last minute.
Have to say you are quite correct with having the same experience as I do with the appalling Spanish drivers. I wonder how many actually have a license and therefore have insurance. Strong reason is that here in Spain you cannot be taught to learn to drive by a friend or family member, you have to be taught by an official driving school. That costs money which , in these difficult times, many Spanish people don't have a lot of. Ever wondered why there are so many Trafico spot checks on the road. It's not just to catch out those driving over the drink drive limit.
