Hello, wonder if anyone can help/advise me.  When we bought our home we asked about water supply, and were told by seller that yeas water is not for drinking, but ok for cooking, washing etc.  Now we find that water which comes from "balsa", is only suitable for washing, meaning we buy mineral water not only for drinking but for cooking.   I have sent an emails to council but have received no replies.  Can anyone advise me on what to do, please.  My husband is starting to have health problems we think, not sure, it is from using this balsa water.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Hello, there are about 30 other houses around us, most are used as their week-end house so water is not a problem for them.

Hi

I'm Natascha

The chance that you get health problems from the water is small, I think.

How long are you living here in that house?

In start that I lived here, after 2 months, I felt bad for 6weeks.

That was from the different hights...?

When you say "balsa" water, is it possible you mean "embalse"?

An embalse is basically a reservoir formed behind a dam, I think the nearest one to Fortuna is the Embalse de Santomera to the south. If so, then it's river/lake water but presumably boiling it would kill any bacteria.

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your water issue, have you tried speaking to Aqualia in Fortuna. Also check if there  is a water meter anywhere near your property. If there is mention this to Aqualia.

Best of luck resolving this problem.

It is as far as I know balsas. It's like a reservoir but small and serves only the 35 homes around.  They say even boiling water it is not suitable for cooking. To have water piped to our house from mains water would cost at least 10000 euro. So expensive therefore we use mineral water.  I was really asking for advise as to who to contact explaining our predicament. After all it is a health issue, and should be resolved by council, especially at moment with covid-19 issues.

There are domestic water filtration systems available although I have no idea of the price. I think Roland's idea is best - ask your neighbours, surely at least one of them has looked into improving the quality of the water at some time.

Water filtration system not good with water from balsas. In regard to neighbours, all Spanish and majority this is their weekend/holiday home so are not interested. Thanks.

The only other suggestion I can think of is to purchase a deposito (water tank) and have it filled by a water tanker. There are many rural houses in Spain where this is the only way they can have a water supply.

Best of luck to you.
