Just a quick introduction typed on a cold and dark English midlands evening... which right now is merely reinforcing the main reason why we have just purchased a house 10 minutes drive south of Fortuna; Los Periquitos.

Having searched for something suitable in a driving radius of 1 hour from Puerto de Mazarron (where family reside), we were finally 'wowed' by this little villa and exchanged signatures on Friday last; completion in early January.

We're not planning on retiring for a few more years, (but it won't be long!), so initially the property will definitely be a holiday retreat.

We have driven through Fortuna (literally ... while waiting to meet the estate agent), and so have no experience of the area whatsoever!!!  The climate is good however, and there are some great hills very nearby (we will explore these on our motorcycle), and the coast isn't all that far away, and the rest as they say, is "por la manana".

We are reasonably sociable animals... and can't wait for next year to arrive, and the chance to meet a few new friends hopefully - although I suspect we will not be arriving much before late March/early April.

Hasta luego,   Kevin and Donna

Hello. We are also in Fortuna. Bought our place before lockdown and been out a couple of times. Ours is a holiday home to escape winter in Scotland. We are visiting family and friends in Vancover just now and back next week. TBH I am so put off travelling again as so many forms to fill in and tests. Also wearing masks on the plane. I think we will be back in Fortuna Feb/March and hope some normality then. All the best on your new adventure. Linda and Ken McKellar

Hi, We have a property in El Reloj which we use as a holiday home. The ex-pat community usually meet up on a Saturday morning in Fortuna, when the market is on.

Enjoy...

Hi guys... hopefully we'll get to meet up!  Our completion date is mid January and we expect to visit March/April for the first time :)

I have to agree with the form filling... it's a real pain in the rear, and especially the 48 hour time frames.  We visited our (lol) property a couple of weeks ago before signing on the dotted line, and all the forms, and return tests... just for a 4 day visit....!!

At least we got it right again though; we saw so many people turned away from Portsmouth and Bilbao when using the ferry earlier in the year, which realistically could only be for lack of paperwork :(

Have a safe journey whenever you do finally decide to travel!
