As some of you may now our house in Fortuna was burgled a few months ago. Obviously we cannot travel just now but just wanted some advice. I know you can get a security device where you can see activities from the UK. I am not sure how this is achieved. Can you get the system in the UK or wait til we come back Spain. Sorry if it seems like a daft question but any answers much appreciated.

There are a couple of options that I can think of, both of which would require access to your property in Spain, so would need you to visit, or could be faciltated by a keyholder in Spain if you have one.

Securitas offer a monitored alarm system where you can have an alarm and cameras installed and then Securitas will notify you if the alarm goes off. I believe that they can also view and record what the cameras see, if the alarm is operated. They can then also either send a guard and/or call the Police on your behalf. I don't know the cost for installing the system, bu I believe it costs about €50-€60 per month for the monitoring.

Alternatively, you could self-install a doorbell, cameras, alarm, etc. using something like 'Ring' www.en-uk.ring.com which allows you to view the doorbell camera and other cameras installed inside or outside your house via an app on your phone. I know some people who use this in the UK, but I don't know if it would work from a property in Spain to the UK (I see no reason why it wouldn't, but you should check). Ring also offer monitoring services.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much. Will look at these options.

We have the Securitas-Verisure system installed and it cost 250€ for the installation and equipment and we pay 39,98€ a month for the monitoring by the company. There are no complicated codes to worry about as we just have electronic fobs (up to 6  - so that everyone in the family can have their own coded fob) and it can all operated from an app on your mobile from wherever you are, including taking photos of your hall/bedrooms/living-room or wherever you have the cameras fitted. Excellent system!
