In the garden we have 2 trees which we always thought were lemon trees, this year they are full of fruit, same colour as a lemon but the size of a golf ball. We have cut one open to taste, definitely not lemons as the fruit is very sweet, other than that I can not describe the taste. Anyone got any ideas?

Try taking some to a garden centre that’s one way.

Ours are yellow, they are falling off the tree ripe, however, they do have the knob end at the top. . Even ripe they are not easy to peel. Any other suggestions?

I think it might be a Bergamot, though it is unusual to find them in Spain.  They can be green or yellow depending on the level of ripeness: https://mountainyuzu.com.au/product/fresh-bergamot/

The oil from the skins is the key ingredient in Earl Grey tea.

Hope this helps.

Bergamot looks to be the fruit we have.just wondering what to do with two trees laden with them. Suggestions appreciated. Thank you all for helping us to resolve, must admit I have never heard of Bergamits, never too old to learn something new. Y

Sorry, but your mystery fruit is highly unlikely to be bergamot. It is not large enough and is sweet, whilst bergamot is large and sour!
