My daughter wants to come and stay with us after her graduation for approx 3 months. She wants to bring her cat with her which has been microchipped vaccinated rabies etc. She graduates on the 14th July. We understood that as long as we adhered to all the procedures my daughter and her cat could fly back with us to murcia. This isn't the case. Does anyone know the best procedure or anyone who is returning to spain via a ferry who could help. Many thanks.

Hi

I’m sure the only airlines that take animals in the hood are B.A or IBERIA. I’ve only used road  or by ferry with my dog but have sent a dog from Scotland to Malaga in a dog crate to be picked up by new owners in spain

Hi thanks very much for your reply. Unfortunately Iberia are not taking any animals due to so many cancelled flights. We have tried couriers but they are currently asking 800.00 pound to bring the cat over. We brought our dog over on the ferry but feel it could be too long for a cat.

Your daughter will need an Animal Health Certificate from her vet, in addition to being vaccinated against rabies, etc. This will cost around £200 and is valid for one trip only (not like the previous 'vet passports').

Given the circumstances described, she may be best getting a train to Portsmouth / Plymouth; travelling on the ferry with the cat (it should be fine for the journey) and then you go and collect her from Santander / Bilbao. And then the reverse for the return journey.

Hi thank you for your reply. Unfortunately apparently you are not allowed on a ferry with an animal as a foot passenger. I cannot think why.

She has already had the cat microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. The health certificate has to be closer to the time of travel.

We have contacted numerous pet carrier companies who have quoted us between 2000 to 3600 charge for bringing the cat over. One way only.

We used TUI to bring our cats out here.

It cost about £180 for both of them

Don’t know if things have changed - that was three years ago.

Thank you for your reply. Tui  are not providing this service any more unfortunately.
