Goodmorning, we are Max and Yvonne and we are in a process of buying in Hacineda Riquelme, in block Eneldo 3. The utilities there should all be connected again because they have been cut off for a long time. Also the boiler , gas , should need an adjustment for the new gas that is used now. We wonder if it would be better to skip the gas and have a new , electric, boiler installed , remove the three radiators in living and bedrooms, and than change the three airco units for units that can cool and heat …but in the bathroom there is also a radiator so that won’t work anymore than…could someone advice us what to do best ? Thanks very much , regards, Max and Y

It's an interesting question, so a few pointers that will hopefully help your decision process...

New, electric boilers (water heaters) are cheaper to buy & install and more efficient to run than they used to be; but heating water via electricity is less cost efficient than gas. A new gas boiler will be fairly expensive to buy & install and all gas will be phased out in the medium term (10-20 years) and replaced with either hydrogen blend and then hydrogen, or by electric heating (air or ground source heat pumps). So any boiler purchased now should be at least 'hydrogen blend ready' if not 'hydrogen ready'. However, heat pumps won't heat your hot water water to the minimum 60'C required, so you would need an electric boiler or immersion heater anyway.

Air-con that can heat & cool works well - you feel the effect, warm or cool - very quickly and, although Spanish buildings are commonly very poorly insulated, if you're in a block of apartments, you are to an extent insulated by the other apartments.

You could replace the bathroom radiator with an electric heated towel rail for very little cost. You will also gain wall space where the radiators in the other rooms are removed.

Personally, I would go down the electric route and expect to pay around €3,500+.

Hope this helps!

Hi ,  can you tell me more about the new gas please. My boiler is playing up with the water going hot and cold while having a shower.  Could this be down to the new gas?
