Hi everyone, Happy New Year. We are looking at moving out to Isla Plana later in the year and I thought it best to get the skinny on life's little essentials. Beer, gin and wine, sorted, so next on the list was internet and wifi! As far as I can see we probably are looking at wireless internet in Isla Plana. Does anybody have any recommendations for reliable suppliers? Also what sort of connection speeds are we likely to get, one company I approached was reluctant to give any speed information but I was hoping for a ball park minimum. We manage with 4G currently when visiting on our phones, but will need something more permanent in place. Is there fibre in Isla Plana?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi Sean

Thanks for the reply - have you found them reliable, fast connection - is that a wireless system or fibre?

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for installation, costs for payg? How does the PAYG work for you?

Cheers

Mitch

They fitted a gadget on the roof. Not sure exactly how much that was but somewhere around €120. It works really well. I use it mostly for internet and WiFi. It does that fine. They are very reliable I just contact them a day before I arrive and they switch it on. Works out about €10 per week. They switch off when I tell them. I usually put a few weeks money in advance. No problems so far.

Hi, we also use Wimaz and find it adequate for our needs-no probs  with t.v/ firestick, iPads, lap tops or mobiles. Cost depends on what package you choose, look online for info.We also use switch on/ switch off as not in Isla Plana all year either, think it’s around €30 a month when on, for us it is cheaper to buy in a 3 month “on” deal rather than separate weeks. No charges when it’s off. We originally used Compuserve but the signal strength was rubbish & always dropping.

According to Wimaz they won’t ever put fibre in as it’s too expensive and Isla Plana doesn’t have a large enough population of “full time” residents. Hope this helps you. Jaz

Hi Jaz

We originally thought about Compuserve but had heard problems with reliability - had already heard of Wimaz so we will definitley look into them further. Thanks for the info.

Had Wimaz for 5-6 years,  their putting Wi-Fi  antenna on your property, the transmitter is in the Port. Obviously supplying you with the router and have a few different plans to offer.  It's OK but forget about the speeds you used in UK, often there's no reception thus no internet.  Switched to Movistar which is provided ,,normal" way as property was fully pre - wired and ready for broadband so no silly cables and poles externally. This one much more stable but speed for both is pity. And expensive consering what are you getting for the money. Plenty broadband providers if you got phone line, just need to switch provider annually otherwise their rising the prices.

I have been using Wimaz for a few years. 8euro a week, only when I use it. I use it for internet and Netflix. It is slower In August , but I switch the router on and off and it’s fine. When ever I have had a problem I email Wimaz and they reset it  or send someone out if needed.
