How to pay car tax

Is the car fully registered in your name? If so, it should be registered to your current address. You can check this with your town hall, and set up a direct debit payment with them.

If the car has not been changed into your name you should attend to it urgently as there will be transfer taxes due.

Town hall in Torre Pacheco if that is where the car is still registered. If you have the bill then you can pay at any bank with the barcode on the bill. If its expired then you will need to go to the ayuntamiento in torre Pacheco to sort it. However the car should be in your name and registered to you so you should be able to do this in cartagena at the town hall if that's the area you come under. You can check on the DGT website that the transfer had been done. You are only liable for the road tax from january this year. 

I have a direct debit set up for mine. I use Cajamar Bank in Isla Plana the manager there set it up for me, it gets paíd on the last day of February.

You want to be setting up a Direct Debit NOT a Standing Order.

Very different things they are 

Roland is of course quite right - a standing order would pay the same amount each time, whereas a direct debit will allow the debtor to take the amount for that year - prices do go up you know!

You need to go to the town hall, however they are now recommending everything is done online thanks to coronavirus. Try the torrepacheco council page, you can register to use it, and do most bill paying online. However if it is overdue it may have been passed to the agencia tributaria and they are a nightmare to deal with. They are in the town hall on certain days of the week.

Best thing is to ring them and sort it out, you will need a good level of Spanish or someone who has a good level to do it for you. 

Im still confused. The car is registered in my name. But the Cartagena townhall tell me I must iniatially pay in area where bought and then set up bank payments. Im home again now so might have to wait till I get back

Slightly off topic. 

Car was destroyed in the Gota Fria and I've been paid out, however have just received car tax bill.

Do I have to inform local council/someone regarding the write off?
